Press Release Summary:
Suited for any application requiring measurement of linear strain, universal MFX 500 is used to determine calculations including modules, offset yield, and plastic (non-proportional) elongation to failure. Unit is controlled via USB interface and Instron 3300 and 5500 Series testing machines with Bluehill® 2 software. Featuring roller style mounting, unit provides resolution of 0.1 µm and meets ISO 9513, ASTM E83, and EN10002-1/ISO 6892 requirements.
Original Press Release:
New Automatic Contacting Extensometer
Instron®, a leading provider of testing equipment solutions designed to evaluate mechanical properties of materials and components, announces the MFX 500 automatic contacting extensometer.
This universal, high-resolution extensometer has a rugged construction that makes it suitable for almost any application that requires the measurement of linear strain. The MFX 500 is used to determine a variety of calculations including modulus, offset yield, and plastic (non-proportional) elongation to failure.
Automatically controlled through a USB-interface and the Instron 3300 and 5500 Series testing machines with Bluehill® 2 Software, it provides an easy-to-use set up dialog that facilitates opening and closing the arms, setting the reference arm position, and setting the gauge length, from 10 mm (0.39 in) to 500 mm (19.68 in). By automating tedious and time-consuming steps, and eliminating inconsistencies in how a traditional clip-on extensometer is attached, lab operators can enjoy a simplified testing routine that improves the repeatability and reproducibility of results while improving throughput.
When not in use, its roller style mounting allows operators to quickly slide the extensometer out of the test area providing a safe storage environment for the device. Removing the MFX from the test area allows operators to easily switch out grips and fixtures without the additional step of uninstalling the device.
The MFX 500 is designed with an extremely high resolution of 0.1 µm, and meets the requirements of ISO 9513, ASTM E83 and EN10002-1 / ISO 6892.
