Thiele Announces Newly Designed Features for the Star Series Baggers



MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Thiele Technologies is excited to announce newly designed features for its Star Series line of automatic bagging systems. "With a new combination of technology and simple design, we've made the Star Series simpler to use and also more efficient, which increases production capabilities for our customers," said Steve Shellenbaum, product manager of Thiele's flexible business unit. These features are a valuable addition to new baggers, but can also be purchased as machinery upgrades for existing machines.

An internal sealer is an important part of an automatic bagging system, reducing opportunities for dropped bags during transfer to an outside sealer. Thiele added the internal XJX sealer to its Star Series baggers long ago, but has taken it one step further by improving hot air generation and bag control. The XJX uses two heating elements instead of one and funnels the heated air to the bags' sealing surface more directly. The newly designed XJX also features improved air delivery and an updated folder blade designed to seal even the newest materials in the bag sealing market. Thiele has also added an "empty bag left in tray" detection system. This new feature senses when a second bag is brought into the infeed tray due to bag quality problems. The Star Series machine senses the presence of the bag in the infeed tray and will stop the tray loading device from populating the tray again during the next cycle. This keeps empty bags from dropping in the filling station and eliminates the chance of dropping a charge on the floor.

New servo spout opening technology enables the bag filling spouts to open to the precise maximum position for the best product flow.

An additional benefit of the spout opening control is reduced dusting of the bagging area by creating a tighter fit where the product flows through the spout into the bag. Servo spout opening also reduces manual changeover time, offering increased production.

HMI screens are intended to simplify the use of these often complex systems; Thiele's new Machine Fault screen takes "simple" to a whole new level. The screen features an easy-to-interpret bar chart. New software records fault messages and converts them into a straightforward horizontal bar chart. This real-time chart enables both machine operators and operations personnel to quickly understand the dynamics of how the line is performing.

The bar chart is populated with the top four (revolving) major and minor machine fault conditions on the Y axis. The X axis is always a snapshot of the last hour of machine operation. Thiele's simple display provides immediate insight into real-time throughput status and rates, and can be used to indentify unused production capacity. It minimizes production losses by providing real-time problem identification and will highlight exact areas that may require maintenance or offer opportunities for additional training.
