Caliper Life Sciences Introduces Zephyr Automated Liquid Handling System

Caliper Continues to Address Market Demand; Entry-Level Workstation Offers Pre-Configured Applications to Increase Ease of Use

HOPKINTON, Mass., Sept. 18 -- Caliper Life Sciences, Inc. (NASDAQ:CALP) today introduced the Zephyr automated liquid handling workstation at the Society for Biomolecular Sciences (SBS) conference and exhibition in Seattle. Zephyr is an entry-level, bench top system that combines Caliper's proven liquid handling technology with a strong emphasis on applications.

Designed to eliminate labor-intensive manual processes, Zephyr provides researchers with an easy-to-use, scaleable, cost-effective system that increases productivity and walk-away time while fitting into increasingly space-constrained laboratories. Powered by Maestro software, also launched at SBS, Zephyr includes an intuitive operator interface that guides researchers through the set-up process and initial use. Zephyr also includes pre- configured preclinical, bioanalytical and genomic applications to further ensure that researchers immediately experience the advantages of the system.

"Researchers should not spend countless hours on manual processes that could easily be automated or on learning new complex systems," said Auro Nair, Ph.D., vice president of worldwide marketing and North American sales, Caliper Life Sciences. "Zephyr nearly eliminates the training process and puts the emphasis back on research by allowing scientists-at all levels of the discovery process -- to focus on the science. This is another example of Caliper's commitment to providing technologies that enhance the productivity of research across the continuum of drug discovery and development."

The Zephyr workstation is currently on display at the 12th annual Society for Biomolecular Sciences conference and exhibition in Seattle.
