RSA Security Delivers Strong Authentication Appliance to Small and Medium-Size Businesses

RSA SecurID(R) Appliance Simplifies Deployment and Lowers Total Cost of Ownership for Strong Authentication

BEDFORD, Mass., Feb. 10 -- RSA Security Inc. (NASDAQ:RSAS) today announced the new RSA SecurID(R) Appliance, a cost-effective and easy-to-deploy strong authentication solution for small and medium-size businesses (SMBs) worldwide. Designed specifically for organizations with fewer than 1,000 employees, the appliance is a bundled software/hardware solution that allows SMBs to achieve levels of IT security formerly available only to larger organizations. The RSA SecurID Appliance also provides resellers the ability to offer broader two-factor authentication choices to organizations wanting to eliminate insecure, static passwords. The RSA SecurID Appliance is the first in a series of appliance-based solutions from RSA Security, which will provide companies with a simple, secure and cost-effective authentication solution. RSA Security will unveil the new RSA SecurID Appliance during the RSA Conference 2005 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco (February 15 - 18; booth #612).

The rack-mountable RSA SecurID Appliance may be installed in as little as 15 minutes. The appliance's extensive reporting capabilities help companies to successfully comply with a variety of regulatory requirements. The bundled solution -- priced for 10, 25, 50, 100, 150 and 250 users -- includes the RSA SecurID(R) Appliance, RSA SecurID(R) tokens, RSA(R) Authentication Manager 6.0 software and hardware/software support. The Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Server 2003 operating system has been hardened based on Microsoft and NSA guidelines to ensure a high level of security. All customer support related to the appliance is provided directly by RSA Security.

"RSA Security continues to deliver innovative strong authentication solutions that are secure and conveniently packaged," said Charles Kolodgy, research director at IDC. "By 2008, IDC predicts that 80 percent of security solutions will be delivered via an appliance. The new RSA SecurID Appliance positions RSA Security to effectively leverage this trend, beginning with the growing SMB market, giving their channel a new solution that can help solve customers' need for strong authentication."

"We see growing interest in two-factor authentication with SMB customers as they move more and more business to the Internet and become increasingly distributed over many locations," said Phil McKiverkin, consulting manager at Akibia Infrastructure Services. "The RSA SecurID Appliance gives us the ability to offer a well-established, strong authentication solution that is secure, cost effective and incredibly easy to manage."

In the United States alone, there are more than eight million SMBs according to IDC*. Additionally, Forrester Research reports that 71 percent of SMB IT decision makers have either completed or are in the process of implementing a remote access solution**. While delivering broader access to critical business information, increasing remote access will expose SMB's corporate assets to greater risk from unauthorized access. Strong two-factor authentication ensures only authorized users can access the network through a vital layer of security that combines something a user knows -- a personal identification number, for example -- with something the user possesses, such as an RSA SecurID(R) token, which generates a unique, one-time passcode every 60 seconds. The RSA SecurID Appliance is positioned as an ideal solution for the burgeoning SMB market as research shows that SMBs prefer appliance-based security solutions.

"As small and medium-size companies begin to utilize remote access technologies, these organizations are gravitating to the security provided by two-factor authentication," said Jason Lewis, vice president of product management and marketing at RSA Security. "By delivering an appliance-based, two-factor authentication solution, RSA Security is providing flexibility and choice to businesses striving to best protect their corporate assets."
