Authentication Software speeds access to clinical applications.

Press Release Summary:

Providing support for Cerner, Eclipsys, Epic, McKesson, and MEDITECH applications, Tap2 gives caregivers instant access to primary clinical application with tap of passive proximity badge. After initial 2-part authentication using badge and Microsoft Active Directory password or other verifiable token, Tap2 initiates caregiver-specific authentication grace period, during which caregiver can access application from any other shared workstation in defined area.

Sentillion Introduces Advanced Authentication Solution for Direct Access to Cerner, Eclipsys, Epic, McKesson and MEDITECH Applications

New Tap2 Solution Accelerates Both Clinical Adoption and Return On Investment of a Hospital's Primary Clinical Application

CHICAGO, April 6 /-- HIMSS09 Conference & Exhibition -- Sentillion, the company that created healthcare single sign-on (SSO), today announced the immediate availability of Tap2, a patent-pending, advanced authentication capability that provides caregivers with instant access to their primary clinical application with the tap of a passive proximity badge. Currently providing support for Cerner, Eclipsys, Epic, McKesson and MEDITECH applications, Tap2 radically improves clinical workflows, speeds access to clinical applications and accelerates the overall adoption of healthcare information systems throughout an organization.

As part of Sentillion's family of advanced authentication solutions, Tap2 is ideal for organizations that have made a strategic investment in a single core clinical system. By leveraging an organization's existing investment in passive proximity cards, rollout and adoption of Tap2 is easily facilitated as caregivers are able to use one badge for both physical access to the hospital and authentication and access to their clinical system.

"Even for organizations that have one primary clinical application, caregivers can still find themselves having to log on and off the system one hundred or more times a day, causing both caregiver frustration and impeding the delivery of patient care," said Paul Roscoe, president of Sentillion. "With Tap2, caregivers are not only able to access their clinical application more quickly; the hospital's IT department is able to dramatically improve both caregiver adoption and meaningful use of the clinical system without having to compromise the security policies of the organization."

With Tap2 users perform a two-part authentication the first time they log on to the primary clinical application by tapping their passive proximity card against a workstation reader, supplied by Sentillion, and entering their Microsoft Active Directory (AD) password or providing other verifiable tokens such as a fingerprint biometric. Once this initial two-factor authentication step is completed, the core clinical application is automatically launched on the workstation and the user is logged in with their application-specific credentials.

Following the two-part authentication Tap2 initiates a caregiver-specific authentication grace period. During their grace period a caregiver can similarly access the application from any other shared workstation in a defined area, such as the emergency department, simply by tapping their badge against a reader. The caregiver is once again required to perform the two-part authentication when their grace period expires or when they move to an area of the hospital with a different Tap2 policy.

Key Features of Tap2:

Tap to log-off/Automated log-off

Tap2 enables caregivers to log off of their primary clinical application by tapping their proximity card, complementing the simplicity and elegance of tapping to log on.

Re-authentication

When required by the primary clinical application to re-authenticate, for example, to complete a medication order, the caregiver can simply tap their proximity badge on the reader. If the authentication grace period has expired a two-part authentication will be required.

Support for applications running hot

Tap2 can be configured to allow the application to remain running between user changes - the previous user is signed-off from the application and the new user signed-in. This feature is especially useful for applications that have lengthy start-up times as it eliminates extended wait times for clinical users when they access the application from a shared workstation.

Centrally controlled authentication grace period

Duration of the authentication grace period is centrally controlled and can be set for all workstations in the enterprise or by workstation group, enabling security protocols to be matched to specific clinical venues and patient care workflows.

Self-service AD password reset

Tap2 can be configured to provide self-service AD password reset.

Support for popular proximity cards

Tap2 provides out-of-the-box support for a wide variety of proximity card technologies including HID Prox, HID iCLASS, Casi-Rusco Prox, Indala Prox, Kantech, AWID, Mifare, and others.

Connectors for clinical applications

Tap2 connectors are presently available for Cerner PowerChart, MEDITECH Magic, Eclipsys Sunrise Clinical Manager, Epic and McKesson. Additional connectors will also be made available.

Sentillion will be demonstrating Sentillion Tap2 at the HIMSS09 Conference & Exhibition in booth #743.
