Activcard Announces AAA Server with Integrated Wireless LAN Security

Only two-factor authentication server on the market that provides integrated, industry standard WLAN security

Fremont, CA - June 8, 2004 - ActivCard Corp. (NASDAQ: ACTI), a global provider of strong authentication and trusted digital identity solutions, today announced availability of its new AAA Server with integrated wireless security for enterprises needing to control and manage remote network access. The ActivCard AAA Server is the only integrated solution on the market combining standards-based WLAN security and a wide range of authentication technology including static passwords, tokens, soft tokens, USB keys and smart cards.

While more and more enterprises are taking advantage of the benefits of wireless networking, security weaknesses have remained an obstacle to widespread adoption. The newest ActivCard offering combines strong authentication, while adhering to 802.11i and the Wi-Fi Alliance (WPA) security standards, to provide a complete solution for wireless LAN security.

"Authentication is a key tool for network security by controlling who can access an enterprise's network. However one area that is being overlooked is authentication through a Wireless LAN. Too often, strangers are granted access to a network via a wireless access point," said Charles Kolodgy, research director at IDC. "This problem is just a continuation of remote access so the same platforms and devices utilized for strong 2-factor authentication for standard network access control can be utilized to authenticate people using the wireless LAN."

The ActivCard AAA Server is a strong, scalable authentication server offering full Authentication Authorization and Accounting services that integrates into an existing network infrastructure seamlessly. User identities can be verified via static password, synchronous or challenge/response authentication as well as 802.1x authentication providing additional security and lower administration costs for customers.

Unlike other strong authentication providers, ActivCard standards-based server platform meets enterprise-specific needs at a much lower total cost of ownership by centrally managing WPA authentication and 2-factor authentication in a single server as well as integrating with existing LDAP directory structures to manage users and their rights. Additionally, ActivCard devices come with perpetual licenses that do not expire bringing down the cost of strong authentication to make it more affordable for more people.

"The capability to provide two-factor authentication for wireless access is becoming more and more important for our resellers that have customers who are evaluating digital identity solutions," said William R. Botti, president and COO of Alternative Technology, Inc. a leading distributor of security products and server-based computing solutions. "ActivCard's newest AAA Server features meet the needs of enterprises that control and manage remote network access by ensuring user identity across a network infrastructure that is accessible anywhere through multiple connections, including wireless."

ActivCard AAA Server is RADIUS, TACACS+ and 802.1x compliant and enables deployment of all current and future authentication devices. ActivCard delivers scalable strong authentication based on LDAP to secure authentication to the following services:

o Dial-up

o VPN

o Web Access

o Wireless LAN

o Terminal Services

"By integrating standards-based wireless security into our market-proven AAA Server, ActivCard is providing customers with the first secure remote access solution that not only allows them to leverage their existing infrastructure investments, but also avoid investing in overlapping AAA services," said Frank Bishop, ActivCard Senior Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing. "With the addition of this new solution, ActivCard is offering the most comprehensive solution in the market for trusted digital identity no matter how you are connecting to the enterprise network."
