austriamicrosystems' Market-Leading UHF RFID Reader IC Powers the New 500 mW UHF RFID Reader Module from Nordic

The AS3992 enables low power consumption, low solution cost and simple design

Unterpremstaetten, Austria - austriamicrosystems (SIX: AMS), a leading global designer and manufacturer of high-performance analog ICs and Nordic ID announce the release of Nordic ID high performance, next generation UHF RFID Reader solutions, enabled by austriamicrosystems' market-leading UHF RFID reader ICs. The AS3992 powers the Nordic ID UHF RFID reader, NUR-05W, the smallest 500 mW RFID engine in the industry. This module is the engine that drives the recently announced Nordic ID Morphic, Nordic ID Merlin and Nordic ID Sampo mobile computers and ID readers.

Nordic ID Morphic UHF RFID Cross Dipole is the smallest UHF RFID mass reading Windows CE device on the market. The Nordic ID Merlin UHF RFID Cross Dipole enables RFID reading from any angle at 4 meters or more for as long as 28 hours on a single charge. The Nordic ID Sampo S1 is a sleek, easy to use, mountable USB reader for interactive read/write RFID applications.

"Nordic ID values technology partners with experience and vision in the RFID market", noted Jorma Lalla, CEO and founder of Nordic ID. "The high quality of austriamicrosystems' products boosted the performance of the Nordic ID UHF RFID reader NUR-05W and the excellent support during the development is appreciated. austriamicrosystems is a trusted Nordic ID partner and we believe that the cooperation will lead to success for both austriamicrosystems and Nordic ID."

The AS3992 UHF reader chip is an integrated analog front-end and data framing system for a 900 MHz RFID reader system. Built-in programming options make it suitable for a wide range of applications in UHF RFID systems. Designed to simplify the design and implementation of an EPC Class1 Gen2 reader, austriamicrosystems' AS3992 requires only a standard 8-bit microcontroller with minimal other components.

"Nordic ID has perfectly leveraged the unique selling points of our AS399x family of reader ICs. The combined expertise of the two companies resulted in a module that outperforms current solutions on the market with less than 60% of the current consumption", said Bruce Ulrich Product Line Director for Wireless at austriamicrosystems. "The Nordic ID partnership shows more and more key players are realizing the true benefits of our silicon over the competition."
