Auralex Takes a Bite Out of Acoustics at the Big Fish Grill

GLEN MILLS, PENNSYLVANIA, NOVEMBER 2, 2011 - Auralex® Acoustics, Inc., the industry leader in innovative sound control solutions, recently ordered up some acoustics at the Big Fish Grill, a premier casual-dining seafood restaurant with locations in Delaware and Pennsylvania. Both feature Auralex
T-Coustic(TM) Ceiling Tiles to help absorb additional sound energy throughout the busy, noisy restaurants, making speech intelligibility clearer.

In the Big Fish Grill's original location in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, Auralex's T-Coustic Ceiling Tiles were sporadically installed throughout the ceiling of the establishment. When it came time to open up a second location, the owners of restaurant chain called upon Steve Taylor of MusicPro Marketing, an independent sales and marketing firm representing music and professional audio/video equipment manufacturers, to acoustically treat the new location. As an Auralex rep, Taylor once again recommended Auralex's T-Coustic Ceiling Tiles for the new space, but this time throughout the entire ceiling.

A total of 350 black T-Coustic Ceiling Tiles were installed throughout the space. The black ceiling serves as an indiscrete blank canvas that does not distract from the nautical theme of the restaurant, as it features several large hanging fish, suspended from the ceiling.

Drop-tile ceiling tiles are traditionally used for visually blocking unsightly HVAC systems, wiring, insulation and other obstacles above the grid work. Unfortunately, most ceiling tiles do not meet the acoustical requirements for critical listening environments. Many of the commercially available ceiling tiles are fairly reflective at low, mid and high frequencies.

Auralex T-Coustic Ceiling Tiles are a full line of fiberglass ceiling tiles that offer great aesthetic qualities with absorption coefficients that are 20 to 45 percent higher than standard ceiling tiles. The two standard sizes are 23.875″ x 23.875″ and 23.875″ x 47.875″ for standard 2′x2′ or 2′x4′ grids. Each panel is 1″ thick and is supplied with a fabric scrim on the face of the panel. Standard colors are white and black, with custom colors available upon request.

Founded in 1997 by brothers Norman and Eric Sugrue, Delaware's Big Fish Grill has become one of the premier spots for casual dining in the region. A unique blend of original recipes, must-have favorites and affordable prices have resulted in a dedicated following, one that has earned the restaurant numerous "Best Seafood at the Beach" awards by Delaware Today magazine. Due to the overwhelming success of the original, the Sugrue brothers opened the new Pennsylvania location earlier this year.
