Olympus LS-11 with Expanded Memory Captures More Hours of Studio Quality Audio When You Need It Most

8 Gigabytes of Internal Memory Joins with More Intuitive File Indexing and Editing for Musicians, Broadcasters, Podcasters and Audiophiles Everywhere

CENTER VALLEY, Pa., July 17, 2009 - Olympus, the market leader for portable digital voice recorders and professional dictation devices, builds on its reputation for incredible audio engineering with the new LS-11 Linear PCM Audio Recording Device. The LS-11 has an expanded internal memory capacity of 8 gigabytes, an intuitive interface that enables users to add index marks and edit files within the recorder, and records in uncompressed 24 bit/96 kHz Linear PCM format for digital stereo recordings. For podcasters and other traveling audiophiles who want to keep files small and record basic audio, the LS-11 is optimized for mono-recording as well.

"The LS-11 is great for recording studio-quality music, but its capabilities go far beyond the recording studio," said Amy Leslie, product manager, Olympus Imaging America Inc. "The LS-11 is also perfect for capturing birdsongs, creating podcasts and broadcasts, and making audio recordings to accompany photographs. Whether you record an orchestra in 24 bit/96 kHz Linear PCM, or your weekly podcast in mono, the LS-11 offers something for everyone."

A Recording Studio in Your Pocket

Like its predecessor the LS-10, the LS-11 features uncompressed 24 bit/96kHz Linear PCM recording capability, to capture the rich, dynamic sound quality of music performances like a studio in your pocket. It has the versatility to record and play back in the WAV, MP3 and WMA formats and can record with its internal microphone or by plugging in an external microphone. The LS-11's value extends beyond the realm of music: nature lovers will enjoy capturing vivid ambient sounds and journalists will meet their deadlines for broadcasts and podcasts with audio that's ready for the airwaves or digital streaming.

The LS-11 features a Voice Synchronize Recording function, which extends recording time by recording only when the microphone senses sound at the pre-set level. This function saves time by reducing the need to fast-forward past pauses between songs or in conversation. This function allows a musician to set up the LS-11 to start recording a musical performance before it starts. When the recording is played back later, avoid listening to dead air because it has only picked up the performance.

Keep on Track with Index Marks

The LS-11 now allows users to add index marks to files in PCM mode, during recording and playback so they can easily return to key places in a recording. Record a concerto and add an index mark between each new stanza of the classical piece. The LS-11 also features file editing in PCM mode to divide files and make partial cuts right inside the device. It is also possible to move and copy files between the internal memory and the optional SD card, which makes it easier to switch to a different SD card on the go. For extended jam sessions the LS-11 records up to 23 hours on two AA batteries, longer than many competing Linear PCM recorders.

Record More with 8GB Inside

The LS-11 has 8 gigabytes of internal flash memory to capture lengthy recordings. It also features an SD/SDHC removable media card slot to further expand its capacity by up to 32 gigabytes. During a busy day of recording, changing optional SD cards is an easy way for users to capture more audio without taking the time to download files to a computer.

Silver Toned Look

The LS-11 features a lightweight aluminum silver hued body with distinctive orange recording buttons and edging on the microphones. A large 1.8-inch backlit LCD is easy to read and shows file information, recording time and events clearly. An ergonomic dial thumb pad provides the user with easy control to play or stop a recording, adjust the volume level, fast-forward and rewind with the touch of one button. Erase and Folder/Index buttons are positioned individually below the thumb dial for easy access.

Speakers for Instant Audio Gratification

The LS-11 can play back the high-quality audio on its built-in stereo speakers with vibrancy and clarity. These speakers allow more than one person to listen to a new recording simultaneously to help collaborating musicians evaluate recording progress on the fly.

No Strings Attached with Wireless Remote

The optional exclusive wireless remote controller empowers users to start and stop the recording of the LS-11 from a distance. This is ideal for live performances when the LS-11 can be placed near the stage and activated from several rows back.

Accessories

The LS-11 ships with Steinberg CUBASE LE 4 Sound editing software with 48 sound tracks and variety of effects, a carrying case, USB cable, audio cable, wind screen, two AA batteries, a strap, an instruction manual and Olympus warranty card. Optional accessories for the LS-11 include an infrared remote control, AC adaptor, two gun microphones (ME-31 and ME-32), Rechargeable Battery (Ni-MH) and Charger, a windjammer, and a white silicone skin.

Pricing and Availability

The LS-11 provides excellent uncompressed audio recording at a fraction of the price of competing Linear PCM recorders. The LS-11 Digital Audio Device has an estimated street price of $399.99 (U.S.) and will be available in September 2009.
