Audio Precision Announces World's First Dedicated 16 Channel Audio Analyzer

Newest APx doubles previous measurement speed and channel count, adds support for CEA-2006 and EIA/CEA-490-A standards for power amp testers.

BEAVERTON, Ore., March 5 -- Audio Precision, Inc., the worldwide leader in audio test and measurement, today announced the APx586 16 channel audio analyzer, featuring 16 input channels and 8 output channels for signal analysis. Expanding on the success of the industry's first true 8 channel audio analyzer, Audio Precision's APx585, the 16 channel APx586 was designed for manufacturers of automotive amplifiers and other multichannel devices who need to test more than 8 independent channels.

The company also announced version 2.0 of its award-winning APx500 Series Measurement Software. The APx586 takes advantage of the flexible architecture of APx V2.0 software to provide a lower cost per channel and faster testing speeds than other audio test solutions.

Improved speed & new functionality

APx 2.0 runs nearly twice as fast as APx v1.0, permitting 14 key measurements to be taken across 16 channels in only 7 seconds. New features have also been added:

o the real time oscilloscope signal monitor now has residual THD+N
values

o optimal reference level can be set with automated regulation

o there are additional high pass and low pass and weighting filters

o the multitone analyzer has been expanded

o the new Measurement Recorder records repeated stress tests over time.

The Consumer Electronics Association's CEA-2006 and EIA/CEA-490-A standards define audio performance requirements for power amplifiers. APx 2.0 includes project files that run through all the required tests and report any limit failures automatically, allowing for faster testing and higher confidence in meeting the requirements. Includes automated continuous maximum output and peak maximum output, viewing power spectrum graphs with a regulated frequency sweep and other required measurements.

"Power amp testers have a specific set of requirements for their measurement equipment," says Bruce Hofer, Chairman and co-founder of Audio Precision. "Just as we met the needs of coded audio testers in APx v1.1, with APx v2.0 and the 16 channel option we now have a very strong solution for power amp testers."

APx v2.0 builds on the functionality introduced in Version 1.1 which included Dolby(TM) and DTS(TM) confidence testing, support for playback only devices such as CD/DVD/MP3 players, and an API that enables integration into an automated production test environment.

Price and Availability

The APx586 16 channel audio analyzer will be available April 13th, 2007. APx500 Measurement Software v2.0 is included with the product. Current APx585 users will be able to upgrade to v2.0 at no cost. Pricing is dependent on system configuration and options -- contact your local AP representative for a quotation for your specific application. The APx 8 channel upgrade kit (for upgrading an APx585 8 channel audio analyzer to 16 channels) will also be available April 13th.
