IFS Introduces Digital Four Channel Audio Multiplexing Equipment

All New Audio Multiplexer Allows Four Audio Signals to be Digitally-Encoded and Transmitted on One Optical Fiber

NEWTOWN, CT. May 13, 2002 -International Fiber Systems Incorporated (IFS), a leading manufacturer of fiber optic transmission equipment, has announced the introduction of its AT/AR7400 Series 20-bit four channel digital audio multiplexing equipment to replace the AT/AR 5000 Series analog equipment. The AT/AR 7400 Series has performance standards much higher than previous analog models and many digital models, at the same cost to the customer. The AT/AR7400 meets the highest audio standards using 20-bit digital encoding for the superior transmission of broadcast quality of two line-level stereo channels or 4 monaural audio channels on one optical fiber. By using 20-bit digital encoding, the AT/AR7400 offers sound quality higher than 16-bit CD quality audio to ensure that there is no signal degradation independent of the length of the fiber optic cable.

The IFS AT/AR 5000 has always been one of our most popular products for transmitting audio over optical fiber. And, as with our line of digital video products, IFS has been a major proponent of digital fiber optic transmission. This four-channel digital audio multiplexer is just further continuation of the IFS belief in the superiority of digital fiber optic transmission. According to Richard Malstrom, IFS Vice President of Sales, "This product was designed with today's recording studios and post-production facilities in mind. Now using optical fiber as the medium, these facilities can run these cables throughout the facility and over longer distances and eliminate Electromagnetic or Radio Frequency Interference (EFI/RFI) in their audio transmission cables. And in facilities that are upgrading to fiber or are trying to conserve existing fiber, up to 4 individual line level audio feeds can be transmitted over one multimode or single mode fiber."

The IFS AT/AR7400 Series multiplexing series offers true digital performance. Through digital transmission, the quality of the signal is maintained, under all optical conditions through the maximum optical path loss. "This new IFS digital product line offers superior performance over longer distances as compared to analog products." said Richard Malstrom, Vice President of Sales. "With this new multiplexer it is now possible to transmit and receive four channels of 20-bit quality digitally-encoded audio up to 37 miles."

The AT/AR series offers an optical loss budget of 20 dB, medium-haul performance with an unprecedented 80 dB signal to noise ratio, and an operating temperature range of -40 degrees C to +74 degrees C. This product was designed for use in recording studios, production facilities and broadcast audio feeds and anywhere where the quality of the audio signal is important.

The AT/AR7400 series is part of the IFS progression toward digital multiplexing transmission products. Along with the IFS AT/AR7400 series, IFS offers one of the most complete and well-engineered lines of digital products in the industry. The IFS digital multiplexing product line includes a full line of 2, 4, 8, 16, 20, 24 and 32 channel video multiplexers. The release of the AT/AR7400 series as well as our other digital products is a result of our belief in the superiority of digital transmission in regards to signal quality. "Our superior engineering and manufacturing capabilities have allowed us to offer products with the benefit of superior digital performance at costs typically associated with FM analog products," said Malstrom. IFS will continue to offer the industry's most complete line of analog fiber optic transmission products as well.

Established in 1985, IFS is at the forefront of advances in fiber optic technologies. The company offers more than 300 analog and digital fiber optic products for commercial and industrial applications, which include CCTV, access control, data transmission, fire and alarm system applications, intelligent transportation systems, facility and building automation, and broadcast systems.
