TI Introduces DirectPath(TM) 2VRMS Audio Line Driver

Operates from 3.3V power supply, reducing total system cost in TV peripherals

DALLAS, Feb. 11 -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE:TXN) today introduced a 2VRMS DirectPath(TM) audio line driver targeting home entertainment applications where size and cost are critical design parameters. The latest addition to TI's audio amplifier portfolio provides customers with the flexibility to operate from a 3.3V power supply to reduce total system cost and to adjust input gain levels to optimize performance in television peripherals such as set-top boxes, HDTV receivers, DVD players, gaming consoles and portable media players. (For more information, please see http://www.ti.com/drv601-pr).

Featured in a space-saving 4mm x 4mm package, the DRV601 integrates a charge pump to allow a complete audio output signal chain to run from a single 3.3V power supply, leading to a significant reduction in the number of components required for a 2VRMS ground biased output. In addition, the DRV601 provides designers with the flexibility to vary the input gain, allowing a full 5.6Vpp or 2VRMS output from any audio source.

The DRV601 also features the following key benefits:

o Wide power supply range: 1.8V to 4.5V
o 2VRMS/channel output voltage into 600 ohms at 3.3V
o Independent right and left channel shutdown control
o Short-circuit and thermal protection
o Pop reduction circuitry
o Greater than 105dB dynamic range

The DRV601 extends TI's high-performance analog and DSP products for home entertainment audio, including audio data converters, Class-D and PurePathDigital(TM) audio amplifiers and audio clocks. The DRV601 is well-suited for TI's high performance digital-to-analog converters such as the PCM177x family. TI provides the silicon, software, systems expertise and support for the entire audio signal chain, enabling customers to get to market quickly. For more information see the Audio Solutions Guide at http://ti.com/audio.

Availability, packaging and pricing
The DRV601 is available today in a 4mm x 4mm thin QFN package. Suggested resale pricing is $.90 in 100-piece quantities.
