New Outdoor Warning Controller Offers Cleanest Audio, Longest Run Time
UNIVERSITY PARK, IL - May 2002. Federal Signal Electrical Products Group has introduced "UltraVoice(TM)" - a new high efficiency controller for electronic outdoor sirens. It is designed to provide control of high-powered sirens as well as indoor speaker systems. The controller produces amplified audio signals including seven built-in warning tones, high-quality live public address, and up to 16 variable length pre-recorded voice messages. Utilizing Class D, Pulse Width Modulated amplifier technology, UltraVoice can deliver over 90% efficient audio output, and an impressive 30 minute minimum run time, depending on tone use.

The control is an updated and significantly enhanced version of Federal Signal's popular MCP(TM) controller.
Two-way systems provide siren status to the control station and include a sensor package, radio transceiver and encoder/decoder. Comprehensive status monitoring reports Amplifier Voltage and Amplifier Current in addition to AC Power, Battery Voltage, Charger Operation, Activation Current, Signal Line A and B, Mode of Operation, Quiet Test, Intrusion, and Local Activation.
With the UltraVoice controller, up to 3200 watts of audio power is provided by eight individually addressable amplifiers. Power output is controlled to minimize wear and tear on the speakers and drivers. The single channel audio output voltage is 70VRMS (nominal).
UltraVoice systems may be equipped with a radio receiver for remote control using MSK, DTMF or Two-Tone Sequential protocols. Pre-recorded digital voice messaging can be added by simply plugging in a four- or eight-minute IC chip. Windows-based software allows users to configure activation sequences.
"Reacting to customer input, the design team was even watchful in the design of the housings; now the footprint is smaller and we can accommodate an extra two batteries when necessary," Malley says. UltraVoice is configured in two cabinets, which are available in painted steel, stainless steel, or aluminum. The control module and amplifier are housed in one cabinet while the batteries are located in a separate vented enclosure. The number of amplifiers and batteries required by an UltraVoice Controller depends on the power required by the specific siren array or speaker system.
