Audio Precision APx: More Audio in, MS Word Reports Out

APx500 v2.5 adds support for .wav analysis, Dolby TrueHD and custom report layouts

BEAVERTON, Ore. -- Audio Precision, the recognized standard in audio test and measurement, today introduced custom reports, .wav file analysis and Dolby TrueHD support as part of the latest software update for APx audio analyzers, APx500 v2.5.

Custom report layouts allow users to place measurement results from APx into a MS Word document. Any value or graph can be placed in any order, allowing APx reports to match corporate style guidelines or be inserted into larger product reports automatically.

For example, AP already offers a set of projects that automate the Dolby and DTS compliance tests for AV receivers, HDMI decoders, and Blu-ray players etc. These projects now save results in a format suitable for direct submission to Dolby or DTS.

"Engineers should be spending time on audio innovation, not cutting and pasting all day," says Daniel Knighten, Director of Products at Audio Precision. "Custom reporting is another example where APx saves time, adds value and makes life a little easier."

Share acquisitions or measure digital recorders and PC sound cards

With APx500 v2.5, APx users can import and analyze .wav audio files, for example, using an acquisition saved by a contract manufacturer's audio analyzer to verify test results. File analysis is also useful for measuring the input quality of devices such as digital audio recorders, PC soundcards and digital signal generators.

Dolby TrueHD support and other new features

For HDMI testing, APx can now generate the lossless Dolby TrueHD file format and can capture a raw encoded bitstream for later analysis. Several distortion- and regulation-related features have been added for power amp testing, and the software has new features to improve workflow, for example allowing AP2700 or ATS files to serve as pass/fail limits. Price & Availability

APx500 v2.5 works with any model of APx audio analyzer. It is a free upgrade for APx users and is available from ap.com/download/apx. APx500 software requires an APx audio analyzer to work, however a demo version can be downloaded by anyone for evaluation.
