Attritor DAQ Package enables in-depth condition monitoring.

Press Release Summary:

Consisting of expansion board, crossover cable, and software, data acquisition (DAQ) package interfaces with Baldor VS1SP variable frequency drive found standard on most Union Process Attritors. It provides real-time data for monitoring conditions in mill as well as improving QC and providing method to perform test comparisons. With this package, users can monitor 8 additional parameters to supplement the 3 available via drive display on standard Attritor readout.

Union Process Offers Data Acquisition Package for Attritors

Akron, OH. . .Union Process, Inc., known globally as a manufacturer of size reduction and dispersing equipment for a broad range of industrial applications, is now offering an optional data acquisition package to provide customers with real-time data that will be helpful in monitoring conditions in the mill as well as improving quality control and providing an easier method to do test comparisons.

The software package is designed to interface with the Baldor VS1SP variable frequency drive, which is standard on most Union Process Attritors sold in the United States.

Until now, Union Process customers could monitor just three parameters on the drive display using the standard readout that comes with the Attritor. Any data would have to be manually recorded.

Now, with the optional Union Process Data Acquisition Software Package, the customer can monitor the following parameters:
  • Voltage to the motor
  • Motor current in amps
  • Motor absolute speed in rpm
  • Reference speed in Hertz
  • Torque in Newton-meters
  • Actual motor rpm
  • Agitator rpm
  • Kilowatts

Using Modbus TCP/IP protocol, the data is then displayed on any personal computer. The data can be logged to a text file or an excel spreadsheet and then saved for future reference. The complete package includes the expansion board, crossover cable and proprietary software program. The software is pre-programmed and includes a printout of all of the parameters as programmed by Union Process.

Union Process Sales/Engineer Bob Schilling noted, "Monitoring data in real-time allows our customers to quickly identify changing conditions inside the mill such as an increase in viscosity, differences in media loading, caking of the material and potential arm wear. In addition, having a continuous log can be helpful, especially in a research or lab environment, for comparing results of various process runs."

The data acquisition package can be added to any new or existing Union Process Attritor (either laboratory or production size) as long as that Attritor uses a Baldor VS1SP variable frequency drive.
