Emerson Network Power Reinforces AdvancedTCA Leadership with New High Performance Multi-Core Processing Blade

Next generation ATCA blade enables latest wave of applications using 10Gbps fabric

Tempe, Ariz [June 17, 2008] - Emerson Network Power, a business of Emerson (NYSE:EMR) and the global leader in enabling Business-Critical Continuity(TM), today expanded its ATCA blade portfolio with the introduction of a new multi-core processor blade. This announcement reinforces the leadership of the Embedded Computing business of Emerson Network Power in the AdvancedTCA® (ATCA®) market.

The ATCA-9305, Emerson's second ATCA high-performance blade based on Cavium Networks' OCTEON(TM) multi-core processors, is designed to help network equipment providers (NEPs) improve the total cost of ownership and competitive advantage of their data and control plane products.

With dual Cavium OCTEON(TM) PLUS sixteen-core processors, the ATCA-9305 enables network equipment to handle both data plane and control plane applications on the same hardware, improving the price/performance ratio and helping NEPs to focus on delivering new and differentiated services faster and more cost effectively.

Significant increases in packet and control processing capability along with advanced integrated hardware acceleration make this second generation blade ideal for data plane elements in applications such as 4G/LTE wireless, WiMAX and IPTV. The blade also is appropriate for control plane applications, network gateway and edge functions, and security processing. In addition, the multi-core technology built into the ATCA-9305 benefits both the customer and the environment by saving energy through increased application performance per watt compared to general purpose blades.

New features include RLDRAM (reduced latency dynamic random access memory), which enables the ATCA-9305 to be optimized for deep packet inspection in telecom networks, and the availability of onboard 10GbEthernet switch, which allows more flexibility as customers can select the routing of the data path. In addition, a PCI Express x4 port lane enables the design of a custom rear transition module (RTM) with storage.

"We're continuing to see strong global interest in ATCA, with 55 percent of network equipment providers already implementing ATCA and another 20 percent evaluating the technology for future use," said Lee Doyle, vice president and general manager, network infrastructure and security products and services at IDC. "By enhancing their blade portfolio, leading ATCA suppliers such as Emerson Network Power are helping to enable the next wave of ATCA applications."

"As the industry leader in delivering next-generation ATCA solutions, and the only supplier that offers two ATCA Cavium blades, Emerson Network Power is continually introducing ATCA solutions to meet and exceed the industry's growing needs," said Jorge Magalhaes, vice president of marketing for the Embedded Computing business of Emerson Network Power. "During a time when there is clearly a significant and substantial market demand for ATCA in a wide range of applications, these new multi-core processor blades reinforce our commitment to deliver a wide range of the highest performance, cutting-edge ATCA solutions that are required for NEPs to stay ahead of the competition.
