Schroff Revolutionizes ATCA Front Panel Assembly

Thursday, October 15, 2008

Warwick, RI, October 2008 - The new generation Schroff® AdvancedTCA front panel assembly has been re-designed to improve assembly efficiency and reliability while strengthening a traditionally weak area of stainless steel sheet metal front panels.

The front panel assembly incorporates a die-cast zinc base that strengthens the ends of stainless steel front panels, reinforcing weak spots and reducing the possibility of bent pins and loose hardware.

To improve the efficiency of PCB and front panel assembly operations, the Schroff IEA-R Handle now ships fully assembled so that the bushing block, spring and handle are held together in their final assembled position with a unique transporter device. After the handle has been installed, the transporter device can be easily removed and discarded. This pre-assembled design approach simplifies handle assembly and reduces overall assembly time.

This integrated die cast base and handle offers a robust look and feel and allows for full customization. ID labels can be placed on both the IEA-R handle as well as the designated areas on the die-cast base to display customer logos, barcodes, etc.

The ergonomically designed Schroff IEA-R handle is spring loaded to provide a smooth feel and action for improved application reliability. It has exceeded 250-actuation cycle testing without any noticeable wear or degradation in performance, assuring repeated ease of insertion and extraction of the AdvancedTCA board. The new generation IEA-R handle conforms to the PICMG 3.0 R2 specification, and is constructed with environmentally friendly materials for full RoHS compliance.
