AT&T Expands 3G Mobile Broadband Network Across Anderson County

Local Wireless Network Upgrade Extends Access to Advanced Products, Services and Applications

ANDERSON, S.C.-- AT&T* today announced the expansion of its third generation (3G) mobile broadband network at several cell sites across Upstate South Carolina, extending access for advanced mobile services, devices and feature-rich audio and video content to customers in Anderson County. Beginning immediately, many residents in the area will be able to enjoy quicker speeds on America's fastest mobile broadband network.

AT&T is an industry leader in delivering the benefits of mobile broadband networks, devices and applications. With Anderson's and the nation's fastest mobile broadband network, AT&T provides accelerated mobile data speeds and simultaneous voice and data capabilities for an amazing wireless voice and data experience.

"Today's economy is extremely competitive and our state is competing with others for jobs and investment from the private sector," said Senator Billy O'Dell. "This 3G technology will help South Carolina and Anderson County capture jobs and economic opportunities, while helping our citizens better connect with each other."

The expansion of mobile broadband service is one of many ongoing network initiatives planned to enhance coverage and capacity across the country. AT&T recently upgraded 3G cell sites nationwide to High-Speed Packet Access (HSPA) 7.2. These advancements, when combined with an ongoing initiative to increase the number of high-speed backhaul connections to cell sites, are a part of AT&T's strategy to provide customers with an enhanced mobile broadband experience, both today and in the future.

"I have long been a believer that investments will be made in South Carolina if we in the state government get out of the way and allow it to happen," said State Representative Mike Gambrell. "I am glad to see Anderson County reaping the benefits of that belief."

AT&T's 3G mobile broadband network is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) family of technologies that includes GSM and UMTS, the most widely used wireless network platforms in the world.

"Having access to high-tech communication services is a tremendous asset that benefits individual consumers while also stimulating economic growth and development in Anderson County," said State Representative Brian White. "That is why I continually work to ensure that South Carolina remains a state which encourages and welcomes investment and new technology."

AT&T has the best international coverage of any U.S. wireless provider, providing access to voice service in over 220 countries and data service in more than 195 countries. AT&T also offers voice and data roaming coverage on more than 135 major cruise ships, as well as 3G services in more than 120 countries.

"Demand for wireless bandwidth is growing, whether it's for sharing video and photos with friends, checking the status of your investments through mobile banking, reviewing a client presentation, or listening to music on a phone, netbook or other mobile devices on the go," said Pamela Lackey, president, AT&T South Carolina. "With this expansion, our customers can enjoy the nation's best, most advanced mobile broadband experience with emerging devices and tens of thousands of mobile applications."
