AT&T Official Communications Services Partner of Major League Soccer and U.S. Soccer Deploys New Distributed Antenna System Providing Additional Wireless Capacity for Customers
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.- As part of its continuing network investment to support growing demand for advanced wireless devices and services, AT&T* today announced that it has expanded its mobile broadband coverage at New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford by completing the installation of a new Distributed Antenna System (DAS) to serve customers throughout the facility.
The upgrade is part of a previously announced investment in New Jersey. "We've significantly ramped up our wireless investments to enable an experience that offers New Jersey consumers better speed, reliability and availability where they need it the most," said J. Michael Schweder, AT&T President New Jersey.
Soccer fans attending the U.S. Men's National Team match against Argentina on March 26 will be among the first to benefit from the upgrade. Wireless coverage and capacity has been enhanced throughout the stadium including:
o Seating and concession areas on all levels
o Coaches Club and Mezzanine Clubs
o 100 Luxury Suites
o Press Box and media areas
o Team clubhouses
o Service level for stadium employees.
Additionally outside of the stadium, AT&T has three cell sites that enhance coverage in the stadium's tailgating area, parking lots and along Routes 3 and 120 and at the New Jersey Transit "Frank R. Lautenberg" train station.
A DAS installation consists of several strategically-placed antennas that distribute AT&T's wireless network coverage throughout New Meadowlands Stadium, providing for more efficient management of wireless capacity in heavily-trafficked areas. DAS has the ability to provide enhanced wireless coverage to customers in indoor or outdoor spaces where geographical limitations - terrain, building construction, etc. - or crowd density might otherwise prevent an optimal wireless experience. The additional capacity is expected to help improve call reliability and enable more consistent network access to help customers make the most of their AT&T devices.
