AT&T eBill Service Offers Customers Relief from Postage-Rate Increase

Nearly 60 million Americans projected to use online billing by 2011, according to report from an independent research firm

SAN ANTONIO, May 11 - In order to avoid searching around for two-cent stamps, many are saying goodbye to stuffing envelopes and saying hello to online bill payment programs, such as AT&T eBill. With the cost of mailing a letter going up on May 14 - from 39 cents to 41 cents a letter - AT&T is offering a solution to help consumers and mailers alike save money.

Those who enroll in the AT&T eBill program are part of a rapidly escalating trend. According to a recent report from Forrester Research(1), the number of electronic bill payment and presentment (EBPP) users will grow by 63 percent to roughly 60 million households over the next five years.

The report also states that members of Generation X (born between 1964 and 1975) and Generation Y (born between 1976 and 1990) will propel this growth, constituting 65 percent of all online billing users by 2011.

AT&T has seen a steady increase among its customers in the popularity of paying online. More than 4 million AT&T customers currently use AT&T eBill to pay their bills online.

"Customers are quickly realizing that online billing is a convenient and secure way to pay bills and a great way to simplify and streamline their payment process and needs," said Jan Harralson, vice president, AT&T. "AT&T's tremendous increase in customer adoption is due to the many benefits that online billing offers. Customers are making it the preferred choice over the old fashioned, more time-consuming and costly method of writing a check, adding a stamp, mailing the bill and filing a paper copy."

AT&T eBill service delivers secure online access to current statements, payment options, and archived account histories - anytime, anywhere - for all services combined on the AT&T bill, including AT&T local and long distance, high speed Internet, wireless service and, in some states, satellite TV. Enhanced features include the ability to view the name and contact information of people who were called using wireline and wireless AT&T services, as well as the option to sort statements by numbers called, length of call, place, date or cost. In addition, the online payment feature offers customers enhanced functionality to schedule recurring, automatic payments - delivering freedom from both stamps and the added responsibility of mailing a check on time.

With high speed Internet and Home Networking from AT&T, customers can more easily manage their finances online, enjoying the convenience and value of a dedicated connection that is instantly available for each customer. Home Networking allows families to share a single broadband connection while creating a local network of up to 10 household computers that can share equipment such as printers, scanners and fax machines.

Beyond saving time and money, using AT&T eBill also offers customers a way to be more "green." Annually, more than 36,000 trees are saved as a result of customers switching to AT&T online services.
