Compact Asynchronous Motors with Cast Iron Housings for Harsh Environments

The Siemens Drive Technologies Division is supplementing the 1LE1 series with rugged motors for applications in the production and process industries. The energy-efficient motors of the new Severe Duty series are available in the European energy efficiency classes IE2 and IE3. EISA-certified versions are also available for the NAFTA market. The new motors cover a performance range from 2.2 kW to 200 kW.

For applications in the manufacturing and process industry, the 1LE1 line of motors has been supplemented with a series of motors with cast iron housings. The design of their housings makes these energy-efficient asynchronous motors particularly rugged and therefore suitable for use in tough industrial environments. The compact motors of the new Severe Duty series are available in the power range from 2.2 kW to 200 kW and with shaft heights between 100 and 315. The series adopts the operating concept of the existing aluminum housing series with terminal boxes divided at an angle, this makes the terminals easily accessible and reduces the installation time. Specially designed versions are available for operation on frequency converters, such as those of the Sinamics series.

The high-efficiency motors are part of Siemens' Environmental Portfolio. In fiscal 2010, revenue from the Portfolio totaled about Euros28 billion, making Siemens the world's largest supplier of environmentally friendly technologies In the same period, Siemens products and solutions enabled customers to reduce their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 270 million tons, an amount equal to the total annual CO2 emissions of the megacities Hong Kong, London, New York, Tokyo, Delhi and Singapore.
