HANGZHOU, China, -- On December 13, Astronergy announced plans to construct the world's largest single-building PV System - a grid-connected 10MW system integrated into the new Hangzhou East Railway Station. A total of 8.2MW from this project fall under the Golden Sun Program (2010), while the remaining 1.8MW are considered National Solar Photovoltaic Building Demonstration Projects.
The station, located in East Hangzhou, will use the latest modern transport technology and will serve as a major hub for high-speed rail, subway, buses, taxis and other forms of transportation. The PV project will integrate grid-connected power generation into building infrastructure and will make full use of the building surfaces, roofs and other surfaces.
With a total capacity of 10MW and covering an area of 148,000 m2, the project represents a total investment of RMB 270 million. It is expected to generate 9,818,600 kWh annually. Compared to thermal power plant generation, it is predicted that this system, along with replacing 3277 tons of coal, will also reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 8095 tons, sulfur dioxide emissions by 66 tons and other air pollutants by 32 tons.
The transport hub is projected to be in operation by the end of 2011 with an estimated flow of 75 million trips per year. This project will become one of the most prominent low-carbon projects in Hangzhou's history and will serve as a model for other PV initiatives across the nation.
"By bringing together two very necessary elements of sustainable cities- efficient transit and clean energy, we are setting an example for cities worldwide that sustainability is, in fact, achievable," said Dr. Liyou Yang, CEO of Astronergy.
As well as its role as a PV module manufacturer, Astronergy is actively involved in the development of PV projects. Working in collaboration with its parent company, the Chint Group, which manufactures BOS components through its other subsidiaries, Astronergy is heavily invested in renewable energy development and is committed to bringing its complete PV product line and total system solutions to global PV markets.
Astronergy specializes in cutting-edge research, development and production of solar modules. It is the first large scale producer of high-efficiency thin film PV modules in mainland China, and has been a trusted provider of monocrystalline and polycrystalline PV modules since its founding in 2006.
