EXTON, PA - November 1, 2002 - ifm efector inc. introduces the new Controller-E, a high-speed AS-i master and PLC integrated into a compact housing. The powerful Controller-E can be used as a gateway to higher-level bus systems or as a stand-alone PLC. Controller-E fully supports all of the AS-i 2.1 specifications, provides detailed diagnostics on its integrated backlit LCD display, and features 1 MB of total memory with 128 Kwords devoted to program memory.
Controller-E can operate in two separate modes. As a gateway, the Controller-E can connect two full AS-i systems, up to 868 I/O points, as one node on the higher-level bus system. Information is passed transparently from the AS-i system to the higher level system without the need for additional software. A full-range of diagnostics are available to both systems. Controller-E gateways come standard with a Profibus interface. Additional interfaces will be available by the end of 2002 including DeviceNet and Ethernet (Modbus TCP/IP and web enabled).
As a PLC, the Controller-E packs a lot of punch into a small housing. More than 300 counters and timers can be implemented in the 128 Kword program memory. The software conforms to the IEC61131-3 standard supporting five programming languages: Ladder, Function Block Diagram, Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text and Instruction List. Standard PLC functions such as Floating Point math, real time clocks and online changing are also supported.
Integrated graphic display offers multiple commissioning options Controller-E features a highly visible 4-line LCD display that allows the operational status of the controller to be checked instantly. Pushbutton programming and a configurable user menu structure provide quick setup. The clarity of the diagnostic information is easy to read: no abbreviated codes are required. A user can setup, program and troubleshoot easily via the screen interface. Diagnoses of any network problems are determined directly on the screen. By simply pressing a button, the integrated display can be changed from English to another language such as German or French.
Typical information that can be provided with Controller-E include controller configuration, control/status of digital I/Os, indication of analog values, fault messages, freely programmable texts and user-defined messages. In many applications, this eliminates the need and expense of a separate MMI unit.
Compatible with AS-i version 2.1
To ensure maximum performance and compatibility, the Controller-E fully supports all of the AS-i 2.1 extensions, including the extended addressing mode that allows up to 62 nodes to be connected to each master. The master also supports peripheral fault indication and easy connection of analog devices without function blocks.
