Genie Creates True "World" Machine with Launch Of New TZ-50 Trailer-Mounted Articulating Boom

Redmond, WA (Jan. 16, 2004) - A recognized leader in the world-wide aerial lift industry, Genie Industries announces the launch of its new TZ-50 trailer-mounted articulating boom, developed to meet the demands of both the domestic and international marketplaces.

"Trailer-mounted booms are especially popular in Europe, but most domestic machines are too heavy and not compact enough and therefore can't compete in the European market," explained Roger Brown, Genie's vice-president of sales. "Our primary objective in developing the TZ-50 was to design a machine that would accommodate the needs of consumers, both domestically and throughout the world."

With an industry-leading working height of 55 ft 6 in. (16.9 m) and 29 ft 2 in (8.9 m) of working outreach, Genie's TZ-50 is an excellent all-around solution for both large and small contractors. The TZ-50 features a 500 lb.(227 kg / 440 lb, 200 kg CE) platform capacity throughout its entire working envelope.

Rugged, yet lightweight at 4,350 lb (2,973 kg), the TZ-50 easily tows behind nearly any vehicle with a 2 in. (50mm) ball and a Class 3 hitch. Compact and lightweight (4,400 lb., 1,995 kg CE), the TZ-50 was designed to compete in the European market, where vehicles used to tow are typically smaller than domestic sport utility vehicles. Its tow speed rating of 60 mph (97/km/hr) is the highest in the industry.

The TZ-50 features Genie's exclusive automatic self-leveling system, which provides 10-degrees of leveling capacity from the ground controls. This revolutionary system allows the machine to be quickly and easily set up and to self-level to within 1 degree in all directions. The system also features a level sensor alarm to alert the operator when the machine is 2-1/2 degrees or more out of level; built-in tolerances provide resistance to level sensor "nuisance tripping", which can be common on competitive trailer-mounted booms.

Both ground controls and platform controls are easy to use and utilize pictograms to simplify machine operation.

The TZ-50 is powered by 24v DC (four 6v 250 AH) batteries. A hybrid DC/gas option is available. Standard features include hydraulic outriggers, auto level, outrigger interlocks, hydraulic surge brakes, parking brake, 2" hitch coupler, variable speed control system, dual pneumatic jockey wheels, tilt alarm/sensor, and AC power to platform.

Headquartered in Redmond, Wash., with branch offices worldwide, Genie Industries manufactures material lifts, aerial work platforms, trailer-mounted booms and light towers, scissor lifts and self-propelled telescopic and articulating booms.

Genie Industries is a subsidiary of Terex Corporation (NYSE: TEX), a diversified global manufacturer based in Westport, Conn.
