Genie Introduces The New Z-80/60 Articulating Boom
Genie introduces the Z-80/60, the newest addition to the world class articulating boom. As the tallest boom in this family, the Z-80 has a working height up to 86 feet (26.38 m), outreach up to 60 feet (18.29 m) and 29 feet (8.83 m) up-and-over clearance.
This industry leading range of motion is enhanced with Genie's new innovative lift structure. To maximize operator productivity, the design allows the operator to ascend and descend from ground to 80 feet with single function of the primary boom. The lower riser does not need to be lowered to bring the platform to the ground saving the operator time.
The Z-80 is ideal for working in rough or varied terrain with drive option combinations of 2-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive and 2-wheel steer or 4-wheel steer. All configurations feature Genie's patented active oscillating axle as standard equipment. Drive performance ranges from 30% gradeability on 2WD models to 50% gradeability on 4WD. Both have a maximum drive speed of 3 mph (4.82 km/h).
The innovative 4-wheel steer feature, which includes front, rear, crab and coordinated steer functions, provides industry leading maneuverability with a minimum outside turning radius of 13'6" (4.11 m). In addition, this features "on the fly" switching between steer modes. As the operator sees the need to switch steering modes while maneuvering, he simply pushes a selection button and the control system automatically adjusts the wheel position as the operator continues to drive.
Three engine choices offered on the Z-80 are the Deutz F4L913, 77 hp (42 kw) air-cooled diesel; Perkins 704-30, 63 hp, water-cooled diesel and the GM 3.0 L, 80 hp, gasoline/propane. All engines swing out with the removal of one bolt for easy maintenance.
Other standard features include non-extendable axles, foam filled tires and a 6' (1.83 m) jib with 135 degrees range of motion; 75 degrees above horizontal and 60 degrees below horizontal. An 8' (2.44 m) steel platform is also standard while a 6' (1.83 m) platform option is available. Both platforms feature 160 degree hydraulic platform rotation.
Control systems on the Z-80 share the same innovations with the Genie S-120 series. Adjustments and trouble shooting can be performed without any external tools (hardware), but can also be adjusted and diagnosed with a Laptop computer or PDA (Palm Pilot).
