Adept Technology Expands Served Marketplace With Adeptviper(TM) Product Line

Global Cell Phone Manufacturer Combines Adept's New Articulated Robot and SmartControl(TM) Software for High Performance, Small Part Assembly and Material Handling Program

Livermore, California - April 27th, 2005 - Adept Technology, Inc. (OTCBB: ADEO), a leading manufacturer of robotic systems, motion control and machine vision technology, today introduced the AdeptViper(TM) robot family, a line of 6-axis articulated robots designed specifically for precision assembly applications. The new family of robot's speed and payload capacity also make them ideal for material handling, packaging and testing applications.

Recent statistics published by both the VDMA German Engineering Federation and substantiated by information from the Robotic Industries Association of America, indicate that the articulated (6-axis) marketplace is five (5) times larger than the traditional SCARA or 4-axis market. The AdeptViper combines an advanced 6-axis arm design with Adept's high performance SmartControl(TM) software platform allowing 6-axis robotics to be used in small part assembly and material handling manufacturing.

Adept recently completed the delivery of sixty (60) AdeptViper s650 robots to a global cell phone contract manufacturer. This is the first delivery of a multi-year program that is expected to result in the sale and delivery of over 400 AdeptViper s650 robots over the course of this contract. This contract is a major design win for Adept and reinforces the value and performance of the AdeptViper 6-axis product.

"Precision manufacturing is moving to shorter runs of multiple products versus the traditional production line. Adept has seen this in all consumer products," said Rob Bucher, chairman and chief executive officer for Adept Technology, Inc. "The AdeptViper robots in combination with our other high precision robots, controls and vision, such as our Adept Cobra SCARA robots and recently introduced iSight(TM) Vision package, has been defined to best serve this growing trend of Adept's markets."

AdeptViper robots are available in two models, the AdeptViper s650 and the AdeptViper s850, designed for either table-mounting or ceiling-mounting and have a 5 kg payload capacity.

This broadening of Adept's product portfolio will allow the company to support a new class of applications through OEM's and System Integrators to its Fortune 500 manufacturing end users. It is expected that with our recent move to a vertical industry sales and market focus, in consumer products, telecommunications and automotive electronics, we will be able to quickly achieve product volume.

Adept Technology designs, manufactures and markets robotic systems, motion control and machine vision technology for the telecommunications, electronics, semiconductor, automotive, lab automation, and biomedical industries throughout the world. Adept's robots, controllers, and software products are used for small parts assembly, material handling and packaging. Adept's intelligent automation product lines include industrial robots, configurable linear modules, machine controllers for robot mechanisms and other flexible automation equipment, machine vision, systems and software, and application software. Founded in 1983, Adept Technology is America's largest manufacturer of industrial robots.
