Original Press Release:

Springbrook Software's Version 7 .NET Applications are Thin & Rich

PORTLAND, Ore., March 19 -- Springbrook Software, a leading developer of software applications for local government, utilities and special districts, today announced the first of 20 applications utilizing Microsoft's .NET technology will be released at the end of Q1 2007. Springbrook's Utility Billing and Central Cash Management applications will enable clients to attain a rich client experience with a thin client footprint, while offering enhanced and customizable graphical user interface (GUI) options. .NET technology provides the depth, security and power of a conventional rich client, while functioning as a thin client application from anywhere in the world, without requiring a browser. This technology is revolutionary for both IT professionals and application users.

One of the advantages of Springbrook's newest application, Version 7, is the significant increase in efficiency for IT professionals. Instead of installing and maintaining applications on all machines, IT professionals are now able to maintain the software through one central location. The client installation is minimized to a simple desktop shortcut and .NET framework security setting. This saves time, money and streamlines efforts. All the advantages of a browser-based platform have merged seamlessly with the abilities of a rich client, while maintaining a thin client profile.

"We are thrilled to offer the first of many .NET applications to help our clients work more efficiently and with added flexibility," said Steve Rementeria, Springbrook's Managing Partner of Development. "With the .NET version of our software, we anticipate great results with enhanced usability and convenience for our clients."

End-users will immediately notice the enhanced GUI, which now offers the customization of themes, attractive menus and the choice to switch between independent and multiple document interfaces. Other benefits include the ability to sort data, resize screens and expand panels, depending on each user's preference. All rich client capabilities are lightweight and accessible from any location. In addition to vast usability improvements, .NET technology provides the depth, security and power of a conventional rich client, while functioning as a thin client application.

Previously, to achieve thin client capabilities off-site, some providers selected various solutions which fell short of the quality now available with Microsoft's .NET framework. One common solution employed browser-based platforms, which not only compromised the graphical user interface (GUI), but also sacrificed the strength and security of the applications. Another solution commonly used was a JAVA-based platform from Sun Microsystems. Current statistics show, however, that .NET adoption has surpassed JAVA and all other application development platforms by more than 10%. Today, the .NET framework is an automatic component pre-installed in nearly all new computers; it can also be downloaded for free from http://www.microsoft.com/.
