Original Press Release:

BEA Systems Beats Key Competitors to Market with Java EE 5 Compliant Application Server for Production Deployment

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 2 /- BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:BEAS), a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced the general availability of WebLogic Server® 10, a major milestone release of the world's leading application server based on the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 5. With this release, BEA is extending its leadership role in delivering high quality, next-generation software and leaving its nearest competitors to trail in the process.

WebLogic Server 10, with support for Java EE 5 and EJB 3.0, is designed to enable developers and IT managers to accelerate and radically simplify the development of Java applications and services. The product also includes significantly updated core web services technologies as well as enhancements in the area of security, and provides better interoperability with leading proprietary and open-source platforms. The included Eclipse-based tooling, BEA Workshop for WebLogic Platform 10, can provide developers with the tooling they can use to quickly develop and manage projects. Additionally, Version 10 delivers improved clustering, service migration and several other uptime and performance enhancements designed to help customers increase application availability and achieve next-to-zero downtime. A key component of BEA SOA 360:, WebLogic Server provides the critical foundation layer for building fluid, next-generation service oriented architectures (SOAs).

"WebLogic Server continues its reign as the industry's leading application server," said Peter Cooper Ellis, executive vice president of engineering, BEA Systems, Inc. "Innovation combined with the rock solid foundation that customers continue to rely on is at the heart of the product's popularity and ongoing success. Version 10 illustrates how BEA is helping its customers leverage the latest standards, simplify development and create tomorrow's SOAs."

Out of the gate, WebLogic Server 10 is receiving a great deal of industry attention and accolades, with several partners like HP, CA Wily and Interface21 rallying behind the new software.

BEA has been working closely with HP so that WebLogic Server, when paired with HP Integrity servers, delivers a strong hardware/software combination that is designed to provide customers with flexibility and superior performance at a low total cost of ownership (TCO). BEA Weblogic Server running on HP Integrity servers with HP-UX 11i v3 currently holds the industry's best SPECjAppServer2004 benchmark performance record (please see Feb. 15, 2007 press release titled, "BEA WebLogic Server 9.2 Running on HP-UX 11i v3 Tops Charts with Latest Performance Benchmark). Additionally, HP Integrity servers running HP-UX, Windows and Linux hold Tier 1 status with BEA, meaning that all new versions of WebLogic Server support the servers out- of-the box.

"WebLogic Server delivers leading application performance as demonstrated by the impressive benchmark records and industry recognition the product has achieved," said Michelle Weiss, vice president of marketing, Business Critical Systems, HP. "With the significant performance advances in version 10, HP is working with BEA closely to provide HP Integrity server customers with even greater flexibility, availability and bottom-line business value."

BEA Global Management Alliance (GMA) partners like the Wily Technology Division of CA are also prepared to support the new software. The company has already certified CA Wily Introscope, a leading web application performance management solution, on WebLogic Server 10.

"WebLogic Server 10 is designed to help organizations simplify development, improve productivity and ensure the reliability of their applications," said Mike Malloy, chief marketing officer and general manager of products at CA Wily Division, CA. "Certifying that our performance management solution supports WebLogic Server 10 is designed to help ensure that BEA customers can rely on Wily tools to help them achieve the highest levels of performance and availability available for their mission-critical applications."

Industry support for WebLogic Server 10 extends beyond the realm of commercial vendors and includes open source solution providers such as Interface21, the company behind the popular Spring Framework. BEA and Interface21 partnered last year to use Spring 2.0 as a foundation for several key Java EE 5 components including the Java EE 5 Common Annotations (JSR-250) -- which includes resource injection and EJB 3 (JSR-220) interception, and are currently working together to so that the integration between Spring and WebLogic Server is as seamless as possible.

"By working with BEA, Interface21 has been able to bring the best of open source and commercial software to a rapidly growing joint customer base. Our collaboration around the Java EE 5 programming model is the latest example of this," said Rod Johnson, founder of the Spring Framework and CEO of Interface21. "Since our initial 2005 partnership, BEA and Interface21 have made significant strides in integrating Spring and WebLogic. For enterprises combining BEA and Interface21 technologies, Spring integration for WebLogic Server 10 goes to the heart of the server and offers potential for even further enhancements in productivity, testability and power."

In addition to receiving partner validation, WebLogic Server has received numerous industry accolades over the past several months. The product is the worldwide market share leader according to the most recent reports published by Gartner and IDC, and has repeatedly proven to be the performance leader as backed by public SPEC benchmarks. WebLogic Server also remains the preferred application server among developers based upon a report published by Evans Data Corporation last Fall.
