SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 10 /-- A10 Networks(R) today extended its EX Series family with a new model: the EX 1000. The company also announced the EX Series 2.0 firmware upgrade to all EX models, which includes support for new P2P protocols and bandwidth configurations, and detailed reporting and alert enhancements. The EX Series is the industry's only bandwidth management appliance with identity-based reporting, helping organizations of all sizes optimize and secure network traffic through the management of bandwidth by applications and users.
The EX 1000 is a 1U appliance designed for any enterprise, including the small/medium enterprise (SME) market. It includes a 3.0 GHz Pentium 4 processor, 128M Flash Memory, four gigabit over copper ports and up to 500Mbps of aggregate throughput and rate shaping/limiting capabilities based on a purpose-built, high-performance processing architecture. The existing EX 2000 models, designed for enterprises and ISPs, include dual Xeon processors, 128M Flash Memory, up to 12 gigabit over copper ports, dual 160G hard drives, and up to 2Gbps of aggregate throughput and rate shaping/limiting capabilities.
Key features in A10 Networks' new EX Series 2.0 firmware include:
-- Support For More P2P Protocols -- Can detect, classify and report P2P usage and user identification for a variety of popular protocols such as Ares, BitTorrent, CSpace, Dijjer, Direct Connect, eDonkey, FreeCast, Gnutella, KaZaA, Krawler, PPLive, Soulseek, Share, TVAnts, WinMX and Xunlei.
-- Bandwidth Configuration Based on Percentage -- Quality of Service (QoS) policies can now be based on percentage of total bandwidth to ensure that critical applications always have the necessary bandwidth requirements.
-- Detailed Reporting -- Includes reports for top application classes, top application users, a drill down report from top application classes to top users, and a new URL report that shows the most visited Websites.
-- New Alerts -- Delivers alerts for bandwidth consumption (by user of total bandwidth) and Web connections opened. Reports and alerts can now be sent to the network administrator or alternate contacts via email.
All EX Series models include identity-based application visibility that correlates between WAN application activity and user identification for a variety of Instant Messaging (IM), file transfer, P2P and email applications; and identity-based bandwidth reports that provide top user information for over 100 business application classes. They also deliver Quality of Service through a bandwidth manager that ensures the most critical network traffic receives the highest priority across WAN links, as well as site-to-site compression to increase WAN traffic delivery time and reduce overall bandwidth requirements.
Other key EX Series features include link load balancing, firewall load balancing, network intrusion prevention systems (IPS) for security, and cross chassis failover with High Availability Active/Standby pairing. Also, the EX Series along with A10's award-winning IP-to-ID technology within the ID Series of network identity management appliances obtains instant user identity resolution for any IP or MAC address.
