API Technologies to Showcase New Modular AAAU Solution for AESA Radar at DSEI

Supports First Line Repair for Ease of Integration and Lower Cost of Ownership

ORLANDO, Fla LONDON – API Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:ATNY) ("API Technologies" or the "Company"), a trusted provider of RF/microwave, microelectronics, and security solutions for critical and high-reliability applications, announced today that it will showcase solutions from its RF/microwave and secure communications product lines at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition. This includes the launch of API's new modular Active Antenna Array Unit (AAAU) concept for radar systems. The unveiling will take place at the opening of the show, on 10 September at Stand S8-100 at the ExCel Center in London. The show runs through 13 September.

API's AAAU solution is an innovative design featuring interchangeable Quad Transmit Receive Modules (QTRMs) that come fully calibrated, making them line replaceable for decreased system downtime. It is ideally suited for radar applications such as Active Electronically Scanned Arrays (AESA), as well as data link and satellite communication (SATCOM) solutions, supporting X-, S- and C-band applications. This solution builds upon recent success with high-reliability receiver protectors for use in AESA platforms and focuses on the Company’s mission to provide customized, next generation solutions for radar that offer both competitive advantage and superior reliability.

"This advanced solution utilizes pre-calibrated QTRMs as the common-module building block for multiple AAAU configurations. Our solution enables customers to stock one QTRM model for in-field replacement on almost any AAAU, thus reducing procurement costs and lowering the cost of lifetime system ownership," said Andrew Jagoe-Salter, Head of Business Development, RF/Microwave Microelectronics (RF2M-UK), API Technologies Corp. "With defence budgets under pressure and collaboration across nations becoming the norm, this AAAU solution could significantly improve system availability while slashing capital and operating costs of AESA and other radar systems."

AAAU Solution Elements

Multiple QTRMs are integrated into a carrier or plank to form a sub-array. The sub-array is then inserted into the AAAU. Since the QTRM comes factory calibrated, all this can be done in the field requiring only an antenna offset to be uploaded, thus making it fully interchangeable and field upgradeable. The solution incorporates COTS components and is designed and manufactured in the UK.

Each QTRM is a single line replaceable unit (LRU) and includes full RF, DC and control functionality (through a logic interface), calibration and BITE status for each Transmit Receive Module (TRM), thermal and current overload, receive and transmit detectors. Calibration only requires offsets to be uploaded via a laptop to support the array aperture position of the TRM. API Technologies also has a range of cooling solutions to support different platform applications that can either be implemented at QTRM level or at the plank level.

API's family of RF, microwave, and millimeter wave products – including amplifiers and amplifier subsystems, microelectronics, integrated microwave assemblies, system-level-ready active sub-arrays used in AESA radars, microwave filters, and passive and active RF components - are designed to provide solutions for a wide range of applications including mission critical radar, military defence, and electronic warfare (EW) systems; military communications including tactical radios and satellite communications; and wireless, broadband communication, and space applications.
