Bizanga Bests Spammers with Latest Version of Platform

Version 3.5 Enables High Performance, Multi-Stage Filtering to Counter Spam Attacks

SAN MATEO, California, June 10 - Bizanga, the global company behind the most scalable and full-featured email and message processing platform, today announced the release of version 3.5 of its platform, the Intelligent Message Processor® (IMP).

With version 3.5 of the IMP, Bizanga introduces another market first - true, multi-stage spam filtering for large networks. Now for the first time ever, filtering rules at the network, protocol and application layers can be fully integrated and managed in a single, high performance platform. By melding the layers together, the data that's derived at one layer can be applied real-time to others for more comprehensive and responsive spam protection, simplified administration and improved user experience.

Multi-stage filtering has fully been integrated into Bizanga's IMP platform and optimized for continued high performance, scalability and reliability. Combined with the services of its application partners, it further reinforces Bizanga's leadership in providing state-of-the-art protection against the blended threats of spam, virus, denial-of-service and harvest attacks.

"Bizanga's IMP represents the next generation in platforms for managing digital messages," according to David Ferris, president of Ferris Research, an analyst firm specializing in messaging technologies, "Two things stand out for me: the very high level of scalability and the great flexibility that clients have in incorporating third party messaging technology, such as anti-spam and anti-virus."

The value of the multi-stage filtering afforded by version 3.5 is well illustrated in two areas - network filtering and protection against 'transient spam attacks.'

With multi-stage filtering, Bizanga's customers can now block chronic spammers even before a network connection is established (TCP/IP filtering).

Decisions can be dynamically applied based on the reputation of IP addresses that are computed in real-time combining information on traffic patterns, external data sources and results from Bizanga's anti-spam and anti-virus application partners.

Previously, such functionality has been achieved through network level systems, such as switches and routers, which typically operate separately and require manual log processing to identify attacks. By combining network, protocol and application layer filtering in the same system, Bizanga considerably simplifies the administration of overall defense strategies against spammers. The net effects are improved responsiveness and effectiveness, reduced cost and complexity, and an enhanced user experience.

Multi-stage filtering also protects against transient spam attacks where spammers attempt to flood a network with illicit email before traditional content filters can detect their true nature and respond. These coordinated attacks typically involve millions of email sent from numerous 'good' IP addresses in just a few minutes. With version 3.5, Bizanga customers can define rules to detect such abnormal traffic patterns, and then throttle or sideline suspicious inbound email until their content filters can make the appropriate disposition. These rules can be also be dynamically generated or easily modified through the Bizanga interface to stay abreast of the latest threats.

"Aside from the obvious benefits of operational efficiency, cost reduction and risk mitigation," said Bizanga's chief executive officer, Jerome Lecat, "multi-stage filtering ensures a positive experience for the users of Bizanga's customers and helps restore trust to the email medium. It amply demonstrates what can be done with the 'right' platform for managing your email communications."
