Agilent Technologies Introduces Industry's Fastest Antenna Test Receiver -- 30 Percent Faster than Existing Solutions

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, European Microwave Week 2008, Oct. 27, 2008 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced the PNA-X Measurement Receiver -- the industry's fastest receiver for antenna test applications. This receiver sets a new industry standard with a 30-percent faster data-acquisition speed than any other antenna receiver on the market (400,000 data points per second simultaneously on each of the five receiver channels).

In addition to the fast data-acquisition speed, an optional Fast-CW mode enables a 500-million-point data buffer allowing users to stream infinite amounts of data directly to the network. This dedicated receiver is an ideal solution for antenna test engineers working on radar or satellite communications in the aerospace and wireless industries -- where large volumes of data are required to fully characterize complex antenna arrays.

Another unique feature of the PNA-X Measurement Receiver is an optional built-in 26.5 GHz LO source with +10 dBm of output power. The built-in signal source can be used as an LO source for remote mixers or frequency converters. In addition, the receiver is compatible with Agilent's MXG or PSG signal sources as well as its existing 85309A distributed frequency converter and the 85320A/B mixers. The receiver with an MXG source can completely replace the 8530A and 8360 sources for existing antenna ranges and typically results in a system speed improvement that is 10 times faster.

The Agilent PNA-X Measurement Receiver replaces the 8530A industry standard for antenna test, which is discontinued and will reach the end of its support life on April 1, 2009. The built-in 8510/8530A code emulation software provides a drop-in replacement for existing antenna ranges using an 8530A. Code emulation helps minimize the amount of time spent modifying test code.

Additional key features of Agilent's PNA-X Measurement Receiver include:
o 20 dB better receiver dynamic range than existing antenna receiver (134 dB @ 10 Hz IFBW), with up to five channels/unit;
o Point Averaging Mode, which reduces trace noise with minimum impact on speed;
o large 10.4" touch-screen display, zoom and click-and-drag markers for convenient and detailed data monitoring; and
o Open Windows XP operating system, 8 USB connectors, LAN and 2 GPIB, and TTL I/O control port provide flexible connectivity.

The PNA-X Measurement Receiver is built on the Agilent PNA-X network analyzer technology platform, the industry standard for microwave network analysis from 10 MHz to 26.5 GHz. This 2- or 4-port network analyzer offers a unique single-connection solution for CW and pulsed S-parameter, compression, IMD and noise figure measurements. An integrated second source, signal combining network, noise receivers, and internal pulse generators and modulators transform it from a pure network analyzer to an RF measurement hub for amplifiers and frequency converters. It leverages all existing features and capabilities of the PNA Series of network analyzers, including advanced connectivity via LAN, USB and GPIB, an easy-to-use Windows(tm)-based open architecture, and an extensive embedded help system.

U.S. Pricing and Availability

The Agilent N5264A PNA-X Measurement Receiver is available now in two different configurations: Receiver only and Receiver with an LO source (Option 108). Option 108 provides high RF output power and a fast frequency source that can be used as an LO signal to a remote mixer or frequency converter. An additional option, Time Domain Option 010, displays reflections versus time or distance inside an anechoic chamber, and is designed to help users locate and mitigate reflections inside anechoic chambers. U.S. list prices start at:

N5264A 			PNA-X Measurement Receiver		$50,323

Option 108 LO Source $20,540

Option 118 Fast CW Mode $10,290

Option 010 Time domain $9,570

Agilent will showcase the PNA-X Measurement Receiver here at the 2008 European Microwave Conference, Hall 2, Stand 703, and at the Antenna Measurement Technique Association (AMTA), in Boston, Mass., Nov. 17-19.
