Photochemically-Etched Anodes and Cathodes for High-Volume Applications

PHOTOFABRICATION ENGINEERING, INC. (PEI), Milford, MA, is offering a line of custom-made. photochemically-etched anodes and cathodes for fuel cells, heat exchangers, and oxygen and hydrogen generators. These products have broad applications in the aerospace, automotive, aerospace, biotechnology, medical, appliance, power, and electrical/electronic industries. Of most significance is the fact that PEI, using a proprietary process, can photoetch pure titanium, titanium alloys, zirconium, and zirconium alloys along with more standard materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, copper and brass. PEI's unique ability to photoetch lightweight parts from exotic materials in production quantities allows manufacturers to meet high-volume. low-cost manufacturing goals, accelerating the commercial viability of fuel cells, heat exchangers, and oxygen and hydrogen generators.

Parts may be etched in thicknesses from 0.0005 in. (0.0127 mm) to 0.090 in. (2.286 mm). The photoetching process creates parts that are exceptionally smooth and free of the burrs and stresses associated with other manufacturing processes. Because of the broad range of materials we can etch, PEI can produce anodes and cathodes that are extremely resistant to corrosion and high heat, and that can be friction-bonded, brazed, or welded. Since photochemical etching provides greater tolerance control for elaborate parts, PEI can provide even the most intricately-shaped parts at a competitive price and with short delivery leadtimes. PEI's turn-around time for quotes is typically 24 hours after receipt of drawings and specifications.

With one of the most extensive photoetching plants in the world, PEI offers OEMs a complete turnkey operation, from phototool making to a finishing operations including forming and heat-treating. Our manufacturing process has achieved ISO-9002 certification and complies with most customer and military standards.
