Anite to Demonstrate First Commercial LTE Test Platform at 3GSM

Anite, a global leader in testing technology for the wireless industry, today announced that it will present the first market-ready demonstration of an LTE physical layer test solution at the 3GSM World Congress, Barcelona, 12-15th February. LTE is the developing specification from 3GPP designed to ensure the long-term competitiveness of UMTS and is considered to be the "fourth generation" of wireless access technologies.

Anite's LTE solution runs on a hardware platform that is designed to support emerging wireless technologies such as HSPA+ and LTE. Designed for a 20MHz bandwidth with potential data rates in excess of 100Mbit/s downlink and 50Mbit/s uplink, the solution is intended to test early LTE physical layer implementations destined for mobile handsets.

Paul Beaver, Director of Marketing, Anite, said: "LTE marks an important stepping stone in the evolution of wireless broadband access technologies, bringing downlink and uplink speeds to networks and handsets which make commercial propositions much more attractive. It's important that handset development teams are able to work now on specifying product designs and testing will be a critical part of that process. Anite's LTE implementation represents the first opportunity for developers to exercise their emerging designs."

"Testing at such early stages in the design cycle is an important phase in the life of any new technology," said Simon Tindall, Director of Research, Anite. "It marks the first point at which technologies are actually taken seriously as commercial prospects, as opposed to designs and specifications on a drawing board. The testing process can be used to help validate the technology itself whilst also helping to refine standards and specifications.

We expect to work closely with our customers to refine these LTE specifications to a stage where commercial deployment is practical."

The solution utilises Anite's Development Toolset, which includes a simple to use Layer 1 Graphical User Interface (GUI), Developer's Application Programming Interface (API) for rapid generation of Layer 1-3 test applications and supports a range of interfaces, including Radio Frequency and a number of digital I+Q interfaces. Utilising a common set of tools, this comprehensive package provides the ability to interface directly with designs still in simulation, through to the final target, thereby providing a smoother development curve. The platform on which the solution runs is an evolution of earlier Anite hardware platforms.

Visit Anite at the 3GSM World Congress, Barcelona from 12th - 15th February on stand number E21 in Hall 2 to see our portfolio of wireless test solutions.
