HEIDENHAIN's Latest Angle Encoder Meets Greater Demands
SCHAUMBURG, IL - (August 2003) - With the new ERP 880 angle encoder, HEIDENHAIN Corporation has answered a previously unmet need for encoders with the smallest possible reversal error and increased resolution. This is especially useful in applications such as small measuring stages and ultraprecision machine tools.
To do this, HEIDENHAIN's incremental angular ERP 880 encoder is equipped with a circular scale with 90,000 grating periods. This graduation is scanned interferentially so that after signal acquisition, 180,000 sinusoidal signal periods are available for evaluation. At its optimum, the system accuracy of the ERP 880 is ±1 angular second. Here the interpolation accuracy has a share of ±0.15 angular seconds. These values justify measuring steps under one tenth of an angular second for rotary table control.
The ERP 880 consists of two separate components:
o the scanning unit including the circular scale, and
o the housing with cable.
Depending on the application, the modular angle encoder can be assembled to provide an IP 40 or an IP 64 degree of protection. The standard housing is provided with a cover ring and features an IP 40 degree of protection. The IP 64 protection is available upon request.
