Analyzer provides acoustic and structural testing.

Press Release Summary:

LMS Pimento Rev 4.50 laptop-sized portable analyzer supports ISO 3745 and ISO 3746 standards. ISO 3745 takes into account ambient pressure and temperature, analyzes sound power in frequency bands, and checks directivity of sound. Analyzer optimizes qualification-testing procedures for outdoor equipment. It picks up measured data and automatically extracts modal parameters and mode shapes for animation. It can scale modes, run modal model validation, and do FRF synthesis.

LMS Releases new version of Pimento, its ultra-compact Noise and Vibration Analyzer

LMS Pimento Rev 4.50 Features new Acoustic and Structural Testing Capabilities

Leuven, Belgium - June 3, 2003 - LMS introduced Rev 4.50 of LMS Pimento, the laptop-sized portable analyzer, at the Testing Expo Exhibition in Stuttgart, Germany. This new version of Pimento gains extended functionalities for acoustic and structural testing, combined with the continual ease-of-use enhancements. LMS Pimento, the portable noise and vibration analyzer, gains new functions for sound intensity measurements and extends the number of ISO standards for sound power measurements. In addition, a full Modal Analysis package will be released to LMS Pimento users.

LMS Pimento Rev 4.50 offers a new set of functionalities to optimize qualification-testing procedures for outdoor equipment, such as lawn tractors, compressors, chain saws or hedge trimmers. In addition to the ISO 3744 standard and the EC/2000/14 directive that were already supported, Rev 4.50 now provides support of the ISO 3745 and ISO 3746. The ISO 3745 standard takes into account ambient pressure and temperature, analyzes sound power in frequency bands and checks the directivity of the sound. The supported ISO 3746 standard is less restrictive regarding background noise. Rev 4.50 also allows data to be recorded in subsequent batches to perform a full sound power measurement with a limited set of microphones.

In addition to qualification procedures for outdoor equipment, LMS Pimento 4.50 offers similar solutions for sound power measurements on computer business equipment. Printers, desktop PCs and other computer appliances can now be validated against the ISO 7779 standard. This standard also requires the determination of the Sound Power Level at operator and bystander positions.

Rev 4.50 introduces a new Acoustic Intensity that is used for measurement and on-line visualization of time-based sound intensity functions. The intensity probes that are used can be easily calibrated, as the Residual Pressure Intensity calibration procedure accurately traces phase errors, which LMS Pimento automatically corrects for during the measurement.

Most manufacturers want to do more than just qualify the noise or the vibration performance of their products. They also want to analyze the root cause of certain noise and vibration problems. They want to understand the loads their product is subjected to and the inherent dynamic properties of the structure itself. With Rev 4.50, LMS Pimento users can extend their analyzer with a full modal analysis package to perform in-depth testing to fully understand the dynamic behavior of their design. Pimento Rev 4.50 allows easily picking up measured data and automatically extracting modal parameters and mode shapes for animation. It can be used both with hammer impact or shaker measurements. It can scale the modes, run a modal model validation and do an FRF synthesis.
