Teradata Announces Analytics Platform to Improve Manufacturing Performance Management

Runs on Teradata Purpose-Built Platform Family to improve performance and intelligently reduce manufacturing operations costs

WASHINGTON, Oct. 20 -- Teradata Corporation (NYSE:TDC), the world's largest company solely focused on data warehousing and enterprise analytics, today announced the introduction of the new Teradata Manufacturing Analytics Platform. The scalable platform handles the management and storage of measurement and traceability data in support of manufacturing performance using in-database analytics and visual images. It integrates supply chain and manufacturing data to improve operational efficiency and manufacturing performance.

"We're focusing on the improvement of supply chain visibility and management, operational metrics and manufacturing performance, including quality and shop floor analytics, to help reduce costs and improve gross margins at our customers," said Paul Dennies, program director for high technology manufacturing for global industry solutions at Teradata Corporation. "This includes business-specific analytics such as Predictive Asset Management, Predictive Business Intelligence and Green House Gas Emissions Management."

The first application for this platform is in semiconductor manufacturing where improving yield, logistics and scrap rates are an important aspect to profitable manufacturing.

"Decisions here are time-critical and must be driven by event triggers and the latest data, so in-database analytics is key. Today, all too often, engineers in the problem-solving process spend 80 percent of their time searching for data and converting it to something they can act upon. That leaves 20 percent of their time for making decisions and taking corrective actions," said Dennies.

The roadmap includes applications for supplier risk management, manufacturing performance analytics and operational analytics.

The Teradata Manufacturing Analytics Platform provides an Active Enterprise Intelligence(TM) environment enabling strategic and operational business intelligence, reducing decision latencies from the data source to the end users and unburdening the current business intelligence infrastructure. It is well-suited for high data volume environments, such as the high technology, semiconductor, aerospace, medical equipment and automotive industries. Moving the management of data from a company's business intelligence infrastructure into its enterprise data warehouse makes access to up-to-date test data on demand and linear scalability of data volume faster and easier. The Teradata Manufacturing Analytics Platform enhances the information in a company's current MES system providing integration and analytics with other test data to improve operational efficiency.

The Manufacturing Analytics Platform runs on the Teradata Purpose-Built Platform Family which takes advantage of the power of the Teradata Database analytical engine. The data warehouse platform is designed for easy migration from one purpose-built warehouse or appliance to another without changing data models, underlying structures or extract, transform and load tools.
