Original Press Release:

TI Expands High-Speed ADC Portfolio with 14- and 12-bit, 210-MSPS ADCs

New Devices Enable Designers to Choose a High-Performance ADC at the Speed and Resolution the Application Requires

DALLAS (Jan. 16, 2007) - Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today introduced two 14- and 12-bit, 210-MSPS (mega samples per second) analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) to its pin-compatible, high-speed ADS5546 family. The ADS5547 and ADS5527 provide the highest performance at 210 MSPS with up to 73.3-dBFS signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and 85-dBc spurious-free dynamic range (SFDR) at 70 MHz input frequency . This high performance brings benefits such as better range and resolution for radar and imaging, more accurate power amplifier characterization in digital pre-distortion solutions and higher quality for video and imaging systems. See www.ti.com/sc07010.

The ADS5547 is the fastest 14-bit ADC available while the ADS5527 provides the same speed for customers requiring only 12-bit resolution, both in a small 7-mm x 7-mm leadless package. The addition of the ADS5547 and ADS5527 at this speed, resolution and small size provides designers greater flexibility in component selection. Other benefits include:

· Programmable power scaling

· Low power dissipation: core 1 W, total 1.2 W

· Internal sample and hold

· Parallel CMOS and DDR LVDS output options

· Selectable output timing and level control

· Internal or external reference

· 3.3-V analog and digital supply

· Specified over the industrial temperature range of -40 C to +85 C

Customers can achieve maximum performance by combining the ADS5547 and ADS5527 with a TI high-speed amplifier (such as THS4509 or THS9001), wideband digital down-converter/up-converter (GC5016/8) and clock synchronizer and jitter cleaner (CDCM7005).

Availability and Packaging

Both the ADS5547 and ADS5527 are available now in 48-pin quad flat no-lead (QFN) packages. The ADS5547 is priced at $82.50 each and the ADS5527 is priced at $45.00 each in 1,000-piece quantities. Samples and evaluation modules (EVMs) are available from www.ti.com.

TI offers analog engineers a wide-ranging support infrastructure that includes training and seminars, design tools and utilities, technical documentation, evaluation modules, an online KnowledgeBase, a product information hotline and a comprehensive offering of samples that ship within 24 hours of request.
