80Msps, 14-Bit ADC Digitizes High Frequency Wide Dynamic Range Signals for Communications

MILPITAS, CA - June 23 - Linear Technology Corporation introduces the LTC1748, an 80Msps, 14-bit Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) offering excellent dynamic range, 76.3dB signal to noise ratio (SNR) and a 90dB spurious free dynamic range (SFDR) for high speed applications. Undersampling a 70MHz input, the LTC1748 delivers 75.4dB SNR and 80dB SFDR. The device's excellent AC performance is ideal for applications in cellular basestations, communication test equipment and broadband software radios.

The LTC1748 offers the flexibility to configure the input and the output specifically for the application. The 250MHz sample and hold bandwidth allows for undersampling of input frequencies in excess of 70MHz. The input can span ±1V to ±1.6V to optimize the dynamic performance. With a ±1V span, the LTC1748 delivers 72.5dB SNR and 90dB SFDR, but with a ±1.6V span, it delivers 76.1dB SNR and 88dB SFDR, both at 30MHz. If the input ever goes out of range, there is an automatic indicator on the overflow pin. The LTC1748 has a separate digital output supply pin for easy connections to low voltage DSPs and FIFOs.

The LTC1748 is one device in a family of pin-compatible high speed ADCs. The family includes the LTC1747 12-Bit, 80Msps ADC; LTC1742 14-Bit, 65Msps ADC; and LTC1741 12-Bit, 65Msps ADC. Each device is available in the 48-pin TSSOP package for both commercial and industrial temperature ranges.

Pricing for 1,000-piece quantities begins at $32.30 each for the LTC1748, $19.55 each for the LTC1747, $24.65 each for the LTC1742 and $12.75 each for the LTC1741.
