ON Semiconductor Introduces Industry's Smallest Packaged Low Voltage Analog Switches for Portable and Wireless Audio Applications

The new Pb-free ultra small 6-pin, 10-pin and 16-pin analog switches utilize between 1.2 mm2 and 4.7 mm2 of board space and are up to 70 percent smaller than competition

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Jan. 12, 2006 - A leading global supplier of power management devices, ON Semiconductor (NASDAQ: ONNN) has introduced three new low resistance analog switches for portable and wireless audio applications. Offered in lead-free (Pb-free) Thin QFN / Thin DFN packages that utilize between 1.2 mm2 and 4.7 mm2 of board space, these 6-pin, 10-pin and 16-pin devices are the industry's smallest and highest performance audio analog switches.

"Customers with space constrained portable applications prefer higher performance functions in smaller footprint packages" said Dan Huettl, director for ON Semiconductor's Logic and Analog Switch business unit. "ON Semiconductor's new analog switches directly address our customers' needs. The response has been extremely positive. Some customers have already designed the parts into their latest cell phones and are ramping up production."

The High Performance Audio Devices:
The three new high performance audio analog switches are designed for high-current switching of an audio signal in portable and wireless applications with low operating voltages. The devices are ideal for higher power audio applications that require low on-resistance (Ron) for improved power efficiency. Target applications include cellular phones, PDA's and MP3 players.

The NLAS3799MNR2G is a low voltage, ultra low Ron, Dual Double Pole-Double Throw (Dual DPDT) switch. It achieves total harmonic distortion of 0.11% and low Ron of 0.35 Ohm allowing for superior audio performance and low power consumption. In addition, the NLAS3799LMNR2G (low voltage logic level version) can operate with a 1.8V input swing. These parts are available in a Pb-free 16-lead Thin QFN that measures 2.6 mm x 1.8 mm x 0.75 mm and utilizes 48 percent less board space than competitor products. They are priced at $0.97 per unit in 10,000-unit quantities.

The NLAS5223MNR2G is a low voltage, ultra low Ron, Dual Single Pole-Double Throw (Dual SPDT) switch. This analog switch has enhanced lower Ron performance and has a 70 percent smaller footprint than the very popular NLAS4684MNR2G. It achieves total harmonic distortion of 0.12% and low Ron of 0.35 Ohm allowing for superior audio performance and low power consumption. In addition, the low voltage logic level version of the NLAS5223LMNR2G can operate with a 1.8 V input swing. This part comes in a Pb-free, 10-lead, Thin QFN that measures 1.4 mm x 1.8 mm x 0.75 mm. It is priced at $0.67 per unit in 10,000-unit quantities.

The NLAS5123MNR2G is a 1 ohm, Ron, Single SPDT analog switch with 0.012 % total harmonic distortion and break before make capability. It is available in a Pb-free, 6-lead, Thin DFN that measures 1.2 mm x 1.0 mm x 0.75mm and utilizes 53 percent less board space than competitor products. It is priced at $0.56 per unit in 10,000-unit quantities.
