New Vishay Siliconix Low-Voltage Analog Switch Family Targets Portable Systems With On-Resistance Down To 0.25 Ohms, Current Handling Up To 300 MA For Load Switching

Devices offer direct battery operation and choice of configurations.

Santa Clara, CA - May 25, 2005 - Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today released a family of new analog switches designed for direct battery operation in portable applications. Offering low on-resistance and low-level logic control through the full voltage range of 1.6 V to 4.3 V, the new switches are aimed at end products including cell phones, set-top boxes, PDAs, and media players.

Built on the Vishay Siliconix low-voltage submicron CMOS process, the analog switches released today can switch both audio and low-voltage power in portable applications. The devices support continuous currents up to 300 mA for Reed Relay replacement and load switching. Their ability to run directly from lithium-ion battery power simplifies designs by removing the need for a voltage regulator.

All products offer bidirectional signal flow and rail-to-rail signal swing. A choice of multiple configurations - including double-pole/double-throw (DPDT), single-pole/double-throw (SPDT), and single-pole/single-throw (SPST) - provides flexibility to the designers of set-top boxes, video games, and medical and industrial applications.

With their low rDS(on) and low on-resistance flatness and matching, these new switches enable a significant improvement in overall signal fidelity. This is especially beneficial for low-distortion audio applications.

Low-level logic control is guaranteed throughout the voltage supply range. For example, the DG2799 DPDT analog switch guarantees 1.6 V logic at a 4.3 V power supply. The device features low on-resistance of 0.45 ohms at 2.7 V and switching times of 57ns (tON) and 45 ns (tOFF). It is packaged in a QFN-16 (3x3) package that helps to reduce board space requirements.

The new DG2714 is a break-before-make SPDT monolithic CMOS analog switch that combines low-voltage operation from 1.6 V to 3.6 V, switching times of 51 ns (tON) and33 ns (tOFF), and on-resistance of 1.2 ohms in a compact SC-70 package. The DG2715 and DG2716 are bi-directional SPST switches that feature low-voltage operation from a single 1.65 V to 3.6 V supply, fast switching speeds of 29 ns (tON) and 26 ns (tOFF), and low on-resistance values of 0.6 ohms at 2.7 V and 1.5 ohms at 1.8 V. These two SPST switches, available in the SC-70 package, also offer excellent on-resistance flatness of 0.2 ohms.

Also released today, the DG2741, DG2742, and DG2743 are low-voltage, single-supply, dual SPST analog switches with on-resistance values down to 0.8 ohms at 2.7 V, fast switching speeds of 30 ns (tON) and 28 ns (tOFF), and the ability to handle signals over the entire analog voltage range. On-resistance flatness and matching of 0.18 ohms and 0.08 ohms, respectively, ensure high accuracy between channels. The DG274x switches are available in space-saving SOT23-8 and MSOP-8 packages.

Offered in lead (Pb)-free packaging, samples and production quantities of the new analog switches are available now, with lead times of six to eight weeks for larger orders.
