Analog Output Boards offer 3 modes of operation.

Press Release Summary:

PowerDAS(TM) PAO-Series analog output boards keep users in control of their output waveforms, independently of speed or interrupt patterns of host CPU. They are pin-for-pin compatible with MetraByte(TM) DDA-16 cards. Operation modes include: Waveform Generation mode, Waveform Update mode, and Conventional Software mode. All boards provide 16 DIO lines and 3 counter-timers, with 8 to 96 analog output channels.

Original Press Release:

Analog Output Boards That Control Waveforms

New PowerDAS(TM) analog output boards from CyberResearch,
Inc., keep users in control of their output waveforms -
independently of the speed or interrupt patterns of the host
CPU. In addition, the PAO-series boards are pin-for-pin compatible with conventional MetraByte(TM) DDA-16 cards.

Our CyberResearch® PowerDAS analog output boards offer three modes of operation: Waveform Generation, Waveform Update, and Conventional Software Update.

In Waveform Generation mode, users load the data points that define their waveforms into the on-board memory; then, an on-board processor clocks the data out, without needing commmands or data from the host CPU. In Waveform Update mode, half the
samples in the on-board memory are updated from the host CPU while the on-board processor works with the other half. This procedure keeps data updated while avoiding glitches caused by interrupts and bus-access conflicts.

In Conventional Software mode, PowerDAS boards accept commands and data from any application program that updates analog ouputs one data point at a time. Each channel on a board runs independently. All boards in the PowerDAS PAO series provide 16 DIO lines and 3 counter-timers, with 8 to 96 analog output channels.
