Modular ADwin Pro-II Card with Local Processing

CHESTERLAND OH - CAS DataLoggers has teamed up with bestselling manufacturer Jager to announce the Pro II-AIn-32/18-D-TiCo card available for ADwin-Pro-II modular data acquisition and control systems. The card's TiCo (Timing Controller) co-processor offloads tasks from the main processor, enabling pre-processing of the local results, implementation of filters, and statistical processing and triggering, which improves system throughput. ADwin's high-performance real-time systems are capable of parallel, individually-controlled processes while running independently of a PC's operating system to provide deterministic operation with response times of 1 usec. or less. These sophisticated data acquisition and control systems see common use in electrical component testing, sensors and ECU's, control of servohydraulic systems, testing automotive components, motion control, synchronized data acquisition, and many other demanding applications.

This analog input module features 32 single-ended or 16 differential inputs (software selectable), an 18-bit analog to digital converter, and a programmable amplifier (PGA). The inputs are equipped with a 37-pin D-Sub female connector. The module can be combined with signal conditioning cards, Pro-TC and Pro-PT modules. The module has an input voltage range of ±10V, a sampling rate of 500 ksps and a software-selectable gain of 1, 2, 4 or 8. The adjustment of gain and offset is calibrated by ADwin software. The variant Pro II-AIn-32/18-D-TiCo card additionally provides a freely programmable TiCo processor which has access to all inputs of the module.

The key feature of ADwin cards is the TICO co-processor, which has been optimized for fast reaction and exact timing in a nanosecond time scale. This onboard 'soft' processor works without putting a load on the main processor, letting users implement filters, statistical processing, and triggering. The TiCo processor runs independently as freely-programmable co-processor which has access to all inputs and outputs and fulfills special tasks as filtering, data conversion, communication (SPI), signal generation, control, and more. According to the target, the TiCo processor can support the ADwin CPU's task, for example by preprocessing, or it can undertake a complete task on its own.

Each ADwin system has a central processing unit, the ADwin CPU, which executes all time-critical tasks in real-time. In addition, Pro II systems can contain one or more TiCo processors. Analog and digital inputs and outputs as well as add-ons like counters and bus interfaces form the connection to the test stand.

ADwin systems have tightly-coupled analog and digital inputs along with counters to allow for extremely low-latency operation. ADwin-Pro II Series devices utilize a modular form factor with plug-in modules to connect up to 480 analog or digital inputs in a single chassis, along with a high-performance 300 MHz DSP processor and Ethernet communications interface. A wide variety of other I/O options are available, including CANbus, SSI, Profibus/Fieldbus, RS-232/485, and signal conditioner modules. This versatile system is available in full, half and quarter rack mainframes and either AC- or DC-powered versions.

The Pro II system's extremely high speed makes it ideal for complex applications requiring a high data throughput. In addition, the processor's speed allows an intelligent pre-selection of relevant data, mathematical functions or digital channel filtering. All new Pro-II modules run on the Pro II bus with hardware synchronization, allowing fully-synchronized time measurements with multiple modules without any special software effort required. The ADwin-Pro-II is available in several versions with 5-16 slots for a variety of different modules to form the ideal, flexible foundation for rapid real-time applications.

Users can easily program the module using ADbasic instructions. The programming in ADbasic instructions are described in ADbasic online help and in the Pro II Software manual, while the included file ADwinPro_All.inc contains instructions for several common functions.
