MAZeT Presents MTI04C

Multi-channel, Programmable Sensor-signal Amplifier as a Naked Chip

Jena, May 26, 2008 - The MTI04C signal amplifier has 4 TIA-based amplifier channels integrated on a naked chip. It makes it possible to amplify signals for multi-channel optical sensors, such as arrays or color sensors, while requiring only little space and ensuring high functionality. The ability to set the trans-impedance of the MTI04C to eight different levels offers the customer added scope to make adjustments in accordance with the application requirements, while at the same time giving the amplifier a higher dynamic range. The amplifier is programmed via three inputs, with the programming effective for all channels at the same time. It can be programmed while in operation via microcontrollers.

When various photodiodes are to be switched on, the compensation for the trans-impedance amplifiers can be adjusted digitally in two steps (5pF and 80 pF) in accordance with the input capacity of the photodiodes. The lowest current range is 25 nA. The ability to convert photo currents to the single-digit nA range makes the MTI04C ideal for even the smallest sensor signals.

The integrated power-down mode allows the MTI04CS/CQ to switch to a power-saving operating mode. If the MTI04C is temporarily not required, the zero-signal current consumption can be reduced to 8 µA. These characteristics open up new applications for the signal amplifier, such as in battery-powered measuring and checking devices. The amplifier's chip size (die) is approx. 1.8x2 mm. It is cut as a series component and die and is available on foil.

Thanks to special features such as multi-channel capability, programmability, sensitivity and bandwidth, the MTI04CS/CQ amplifiers are well suited for optical arrays and lines in the UV, VIS, NIR and IR range.

Typically, this relates to applications such as industrial sensors (light grids, level indicators, devices measuring length, position, thickness or distance), equipment for surface analysis and temperature measurement (thermal imaging, combustion-efficiency monitoring), detectors for alpha, beta, and gamma-radiation, x-rays and ions as well as applications to measure, regulate and control light and laser sources.
