OAK RIDGE, TN-The ORTEC® business unit of AMETEK Advanced Measurement Technology has extended its Trans-SPEC series of hand-held gamma spectroscopy instruments with the addition of the Micro-trans-SPEC, an ultra-lightweight version that also features enhanced display, communications, data storage and analysis capabilities.
Weighing a mere 15 pounds, the Micro-trans-SPEC is the lightest, liquid nitrogen-free, portable high-purity Germanium gamma spectroscopy system on the market. The self-contained instrument provides a complete spectrometer in a single easy to handle package and offers a dramatic reduction in size (20%) and weight (34%) than previous versions of the Trans-SPEC with no loss in performance.
"The continuing success of the Detective family of Homeland Security products and more recently of the Micro-Detective with hundreds of instruments in the field has allowed us to enhance the capabilities of the Trans-SPEC product line with derivative technologies. The result is a win-win situation for our customers," comments Tim Twomey, ORTEC Product Manager.
ORTEC has more than 40 years of experience in the design and manufacture of highly sensitive radiation detectors that are used by government and industrial laboratories, nuclear facilities and medical research and in nuclear safeguards. It is one of only two manufacturers worldwide with the ability to produce both high-purity germanium and high-resolution radiation detectors from it. ORTEC also is a leader in digital signal processing electronics and associated software.
