American Tool and Mold Expands Services into Liquid Silicone Rubber

American Tool and Mold expands services into Liquid Silicone Rubber, Clean Room molding, Metrology and more

American Tool & Mold, a certified woman's business enterprise*, is a leader in the design and construction of complex, precision, multi-cavity molds for the plastic injection molding industry. They are now expanding their capabilities, especially in the areas of Liquid Silicone Rubber molds and molding, in contract clean room molding for food and medical devices, and in metrology services extending beyond internal quality control.

According to Emilia Loulourgas Giannakopoulos, CEO of ATM, Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR) has gained increasing use in a variety of applications that require flexibility in environments with a wide temperature range, high resistance to compression and higher resistance to chemicals. ATM has recently hired new staff with extensive experience in LSR mold-making and molding to meet the rapidly growing demand for complex LSR parts with tight tolerances.

"ATM's expansion into LSR molding and mold making will increase our presence in the markets of medical devices and laboratory disposables" says Giannakopoulos. ATM builds a variety of injection molds for manufacturing plastic parts for the medical supply and pharmaceuticals industries. Medical equipment often requires complex molds with very intricate designs for parts including IV parts, medicine bottles and caps, pill inspector trays, syringes and vials.

ATM excels at providing highly personalized and responsive medical device contract manufacturing to a variety of companies, both large and small. Their staff has extensive experience in producing molds for sterile single use devices, non-sterile reusable devices and in-vitro diagnostic assembly, testing, packaging, sterilization and distribution. They contract manufacture class I, II and III medical devices . In addition, they will soon operate a state-of-the art clean room plastics injection molding facility producing very tight tolerance parts.

"ATM is in the process of implementing a clean room facility which will be ISO class 6 (Fed Std. Class 1000) certified and will include both molding and assembly operations", says Demetre Loulourgas ATM's Founder and President. "It will have the latest state-of-the-art electric molding presses and robotic handlers" Loulourgas adds.

ATM meets industry demands for high volume parts with critical quality specifications. ATM's facility operates under ISO 9001:2008 standards and procedures, and is UL registered.

The clean room will offer Hepa filtration, room pressure monitor, airflow monitor and constant temperature and humidity controls to meet industry demand for quality molded plastics and Liquid Silicone Rubber. All processes involved in manufacturing custom components can be performed in the clean room, including custom compounding for material, molding, washing, quality inspection, customer specified processing, sub-assembly, and special packaging. If complete clean room manufacturing is not required, parts may be molded outside the clean room and completed in the clean room.

In addition, ATM recently added a state-of-the-art metrology lab with two Mitutoyo CMM's and dedicated standards and measurement instruments. "These capabilities were formerly used for in-company quality assurance, says Phil Gaitan, ATM's Director of Sales & Marketing, "We are now expanding ATM's metrology services to serve other companies on a contract measurement basis. With these expanded offerings, American Tool and Mold is reaffirming their position as a leader in the fields of injection molding and mold making" Gaitan adds.
