ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Amcor Rigid Plastics, one of the world's largest manufacturers of rigid plastic packaging for the food, beverage, spirits, personal care, home care, and healthcare industries, will showcase its innovative and sustainable plastic packaging for everyday consumer use at the Pack Expo exhibition (Booth S-6278) September 28-30 in Las Vegas, Nev.
Under its show theme, "Amcor Everyday," the company's exhibit will take the form of a modern home and display numerous packaging applications that are present in everyday life. Amcor will unveil new product launches and spotlight innovative plastic packaging, highlighting distinctive benefits and advantages that consumers have increasingly embraced and relied on.
"Our products positively transform the lifestyle of consumers each and every day by providing innovative design and functionality, premium quality, lightweight, and a unique approach to sustainability and recyclability," said Jocelyn Cory, Vice President of Marketing for Amcor Rigid Plastics' Diversified Products Division.
A significant milestone in the food industry is Amcor's unique hot-fill polyethylene terephthalate (PET) jar with a metal lug closure – a first for the food packaging industry. The breakthrough APEX™ patented technology was launched by Amcor in 2014 and is now available in additional sizes with a 63mm or 82mm finish. Targeted for food applications such as pasta sauce, salsa, applesauce, and preserves, this innovative package meets the needs of retailers, brand owners, and consumers alike. APEX offers a superior solution to glass that is safer, lighter, and easier to handle, while maintaining the trusted brand look and feel that consumers enjoy. APEX is a drop-in solution for manufacturers, providing reduced total cost of ownership and improved environmental benefits over glass.
Another featured technology on display is Amcor's PowerStrap™ lightweighting technology for hot-fill beverage containers. The unique strap design base offers enhanced side compression properties for improved line handling as well as feet that provide vertical load-bearing properties for stacking. PowerStrap delivers design flexibility, product differentiation, operational efficiencies, and sustainability benefits.
At Pack Expo, Amcor will launch its newest product - a child-resistant (CR) closure for ophthalmic packaging. Amcor's SecurePlus™ is a two-piece, push-and-turn closure which was developed to meet new federal regulations for certain drug applications such as eye and nasal products. The 15-mm diameter polypropylene (PP) closure is targeted for containers ranging from 5ml to 60ml, including squeezable eye drop and nasal spray products. SecurePlus has passed senior-friendly and child-resistant protocol testing and is ready to replace today's single-piece, non-child-resistant PP closures.
In wine and spirits, Amcor will highlight its development of sustainable packaging for Bronco Wine Co.'s Green Fin brand of organic wine. Bronco is field testing its Green Fin brand in 750ml PET bottles. The plastic bottle offers a major weight savings over traditional glass containers and supports customer sustainability targets by achieving full recyclability. Green Fin features a 100% recyclable PET label and an aluminum closure that removes completely from the bottle. The Green Fin brand in 750ml PET bottles is being field tested exclusively through Trader Joe's retail stores throughout the U.S.
