Ambrell Installs Induction Heating System for Fastener Manufacturer

With aerospace companies requiring process heating data for quality control purposes, Ambrell was able to offer a comprehensive package to enable the client to meet that requirement

Scottsville, NY - Ambrell, a leading manufacturer of induction heating systems, has installed an EKOHEAT 65kW/100 kHz induction heating system for a leading fastener manufacturer. The system enables the client to hot form Waspalloy nuts at a rate of over 3,000 per hour.

The client came to Ambrell not only requiring an induction heating system, but needing a complete solution that could measure and record temperature information using an optical pyrometer. This is due to aerospace companies requiring its suppliers to provide temperature data for quality control purposes to ensure safety. The client informed Ambrell of this requirement and took advantage of Ambrell's free laboratory service to test its parts and receive a system proposal.

After Ambrell's applications and engineering teams tested the process, it proposed the aforementioned Ambrell EKOHEAT, workhead, coil, chiller, controller, eVIEW induction heating software, data acquisition unit, optical pyrometer and startup assistance. An air vacuum was also suggested for removing smoke to enable the optical pyrometer to work optimally. The client moved forward with the proposal, and the comprehensive system has been successfully implemented with the help of the Ambrell Service Team.

Particularly critical to helping the client meet the process heating data requirement was Ambrell's eVIEW induction heating software. It captures and records time-stamped heating process data for analysis and audit. With the optional data acquisition unit and eVIEW, the client was able to easily set up an optical pyrometer to capture heating data for each nut as it went through the hot forming process.

"We're pleased to have helped another fastener customer address the aerospace industry's requirements for precision heating and process data collection," says Ambrell Director of Sales Tom Dickerson. "We've installed induction heating systems for a wide range of fastener applications, including hot heading, thread rolling and thread patching. With the heightened quality control requirements, it's critical to find a partner that can help suppliers meet them, and Ambrell has proven once again it's the right partner for the job."
