Thermo Fisher Scientific Introduces Thermo Scientific TEOM Series 1405 for Ambient Particulate Monitoring

FRANKLIN, Mass. (November 30, 2007) - Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, is pleased to announce the release of the TEOM® Series 1405 for ambient particulate monitoring, featuring modernized electronics and a touch-screen user interface, packaged into a single cabinet. The TEOM Series 1405 addresses the need to provide accurate PM-2.5, PM-10 and PM-Coarse measurements as defined in new U.S. EPA standards and methods. Moreover, the product line, which replaces the TEOM 1400ab monitor, enables users to achieve multiple PM measurements in a single, cost-effective instrument.

The new Thermo Scientific TEOM 1405 series delivers a self-referencing, NIST-traceable, true mass measurement by means of Thermo Scientific's proven TEOM (tapered element oscillating microbalance) technology for data results that are not subject to uncertainties found in other measurement techniques.

The TEOM Series 1405 comes in four models providing one to three PM measurements: PM-10, PM-2.5 (Fine) and PM-Coarse (PM-10-2.5). In addition to PM measurement capabilities, users can choose to add an FDMS option to account for the volatile and semi-volatile fraction. The Thermo Scientific models include: TEOM 1405 Ambient Particulate Monitor; TEOM 1405-F Ambient Particulate Monitor with FDMS; TEOM 1405-D Dichotomous Ambient Particulate Monitor; and TEOM 1405-DF Dichotomous Ambient Particulate Monitor with FDMS.

Each model in the series is delivered with a network-ready configuration with an innovative user interface that allows quick access to system and TEOM data, settings and instrument conditions. The system's default data output consists of a running 1-hour and 24-hour average mass concentration updated every six minutes. Averaging times are user-programmable from 30 minutes to 23 hours. The line also includes new ePort software for Ethernet connections and PRCOMM software along with multiple user-definable input and output channels.

"With this new ambient particulate monitoring line, we are able to offer customers more options, easier operation, and the most comprehensive measuring capability available," said Michael Nemergut, marketing director of the Thermo Fisher Scientific, Air Quality Instruments business. "Employing state-of-the-art technology in PM measurement, Thermo Fisher Scientific again demonstrates the latest advancements and added value it brings to the science of environmental monitoring."
