Altitude, Inc. Designs Handheld XRF Analyzer for Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc.

Latest Analyzer Joins Successful High-Performance Handheld Product Line

-- The Thermo Scientific NITON XL3 Provides Quick and Easy Identification and Composition of Metal Alloy Materials, Vital Tools for Lead Detection, Petroleum Refining, Recycling, Metal Fabrication among others ---

BOSTON, MA (October 2007) - Altitude, Inc., one of the country's leading product innovation firms, was recently commissioned to design the latest X-ray fluorescence (XRF) alloy analyzer for Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. Building upon their success of past models, Altitude revolutionized the high-performance handheld analyzer in creating the Thermo Scientific NITON XL3. Allowing users to quickly and easily verify the elemental composition of solid, liquid, and powdered samples, XRF analyzers are a vital tool for inspecting electronics and toys for lead-free compliance and improving the efficiency and accuracy in the recycling of scrap metals. Additional applications served are the metal fabrication industry, Positive Material Identification (PMI) in petroleum refining/petrochemical industries, Flow Accelerated Corrosion modeling in the nuclear power industry, and environmental monitoring & site assessment- among others.

"We are pleased to partner with Thermo Fisher in creating the latest handheld XRF model, building upon a very succesful foundation of Thermo Scientific NITON analyzers by improving the performance as well as expanding functionality of the instrument," explains Neil Bacon, Senior Mechanical Engineer at Altitude, Inc. "The NITON XL3 was designed to be the most compact, powerful, handheld XRF analyzer in the industry. With features such as a tilting color touch-screen display and an ergonomic grip, the lightweight XL3 maximizes functional utility, and ultimate consumer productivity."

"Through our continued partnership with Altitude, Thermo Scientific NITON XRF analyzers have been engineered for extremely high performance, reliability, and ease of use in a wide range of extreme environments," explains Jon Shein, director of global marketing for the XRF product line. "Our rock-solid instrument platform is purpose built - created specifically for the most demanding customer applications including analysis of metal alloys, scrap metal recycling, RoHS compliance, and QA/QC in the manufacturing environment. Additional uses of our product lines include analysis of soils and sediments, environmental monitoring, geochemical mapping, art &, archaeometry, forensic analysis and lead in paint assessment. There is a high degree of customer satisfaction throughout the product line."

The new NITON XL3 Series features the lowest detection limits, shorter measurement times, and increased productivity options when compared to previous NITON analyzers --- providing the analytical environment for higher profit and lower long-term cost of ownership of the product to customers worldwide.
